SimonG: Name me one Sword in PS:T.
Celestial Fire? Sword of Wh'Ynn? Dak'kon's Zerth Blade?
Think that covers them all, am I missing any?

Nah, there were only 3 swords in a game :D

Zolgar: amusing since your avatar happens to be from one of those "RTS with swords" ;)

SimonG: Name me one Sword in PS:T. Obsidian made it a point to get as far away as possible from that uninspired mess that BG was.

PS:T worked because it did everything different than those carbon copy BG clones that flooded the market back then. It is a testament to this game that it worked despite that shitty engine.
No argument as to whether or not PS:T was a good game- I just found it amusing.. you called the Inifinity Engine era the worst for RPGs, and called them "RTS with swords", while having an avatar from an Infinity Engine game.

I know there's an exception to every rule and opinion, for example, I love Infinity Engine games, but I HATE Baldur's Gate >.>

Dak'kons blade was a lot, but hardly a sword. And you couldn't use it.

Sword of Wh'Ynn was removed from the game.

Well, I give in on the Celestial Fire, but that is more a glorified dagger ;-).

I hate the first Icewind Dale :< Fighting the hordes of skeletons and zombies at the beginning was HORRIBLE.

But I loved Icewind Dale 2. Mostly because they went from quantity to quality of the enemies, and you fought as many battles, but with lesser number of enemies but more different kinds of them at once.

It's like how I hate stealth in first-person games but I love Thief (that's also why I'm very vary of Dishonored).

Personally, I never minded "RTS with swords", but I prefer turn-based battles. It's a pity that nobody does that anymore. Not even Obsidian.

PS:T was a brilliant game despite the IE, not because of it. It started as an engine for an RTS. Which it shows in every game it uses.

Ah, you mean usable swords. Should have said so :P

Isn't it added with a restored content patch or something?

It becomes whatever you want it to, but don't think that many had a sword proficiency

Of course, all these are from memory, and memory fails me after a few years, so do take it with a grain of salt.

That's why I loved Arcanum.. you could choose if you wanted Turn based or Real Time. Some fights running it in real time just made more sense, but others you needed the extra 'time' that you have in Turn Based.

Although to be far, late game, Arcanum was broken in real time. >.>
Wasn't the real time combat in Arcanum utterly broken? I never used it because it was hardly playable...

Myrokratios: Is Inquisitor really that bad? Most of what I heard about it (which wasn't all that much, actually) sounded rather good.
Very much depends on the player. If it came out in 1999, it would get average to above average reviews, with people complaining about it not innovating sufficiently. Today, it's like you are playing a game from 1999 - with all it's flaws.

Instabuy!!! :D

Very start of the game: most cases yes, it would get you killed.
Endgame: Most cases yes, it would let you rape everything without even trying.

Oh, the balance issues with any Fallout-ish game, lovely :D

Real-time combat in Arcanum is mechanically exactly the same as turn-based combat, it just puts the "turns" on a timer. But yeah, the overall result is something of a clusterfuck.
