hey, I'm a perpetrator of this too.
but anyway, there's way too much talk of steam on this site I think, good or bad. maybe we should remember why we're here, not just because we like Good Old Games, but because we want to support a DRM free platform.
STEAM
I agree though, a lot of people dislike it, and a lot of people feel the need to defend it. Steam talk isn't bad if you're going to let the community know about some sweet deal you just saw, but there's no need for somebody else to come and say Steam is garbage, and then it's a discussion of how much Steam rocks or doesn't rock.

Those of you that use Steam will be able to view the update pages and see their latest offers, just as I check out the GOG front page to see its offers. Making a thread each time theres a new offer is perhaps unnecessary.
If it is particularly useful, someone could make a "steam offers" thread, to contain all steam related offers talk.
May have a slight issue with off-topic posts though, from the anti-steam brigade (although I wouldn't post, I promise! ;)

There is one.
No one's using it.
Also, I see it as slightly disrespectful to GOG to use their forum for advertising their competition.

Ah. Well, I guess it's just like the FAQs and stuff, tend to get ignored. Shame. Perhaps some sort of moderation...

it's getting there now, a little bit wasn't bad, but at this point, it feels a little overwhelming..
I said sweet, not 47 cents off of HAWX, I agree; in the same vein that if I saw a sweet deal at some other store I'd let people know, we all like games, and a lot of them are not available here so how would that be disrespectful? (as long as it's not overwhelming as it's been pointed out, this isn't just a huge ad for other places). And I don't log into Steam and check their updates all the time, I usually close those up without even reading them, this is the only community I actively participate in, and that's kind of how I like it, because I like you guys so much.

I think it's fine, since Steam really isn't a direct competitor of GOG.
I say that because their products are ALMOST completely different.
And this is the General Discussion forum...

Take a look at this. From that post:
Steam is constantly robbing me of my money, dropping prices like it's hot. This morning, I got both Oddworld games together for $2.50 (Sorry, GoG, but I'll take $2.50 over $20)

Not in direct competition, you say? So you don't find that this is equivalent to standing at the entrance of McDonald's, handing out Burger King flyers?

That would be one reason I capitalized ALMOST.
And plus, isn't the consumer entitled to the best price for a certain thing? Of course for Steam there's DRM so if you don't want that then you could just buy it from here.
This is why I prefer having a GOG client to talk to other users, instead of having to sign up on the GOG Steam group. While the GOG Steam group is cool, it makes GOG feel like a subsidiary at the end of the day
The Facebook group, though, is another story altogether. Facebook is the king of all!

Certainly, but don't you think there are limits to how and where you advertise? Would you go into Electric City* and put stickers on certain items saying "Cheaper at Electronic World**" ?
* former Danish electronics store
** other former Danish electronics store
Sorry, I don't know the names of any competing electronics stores that everyone would know.

You have a valid point, I already agreed with you, but I don't think any stickers are being put anywhere. It's as if you're going to buy a computer at some store, and another customer tells you that he saw it cheaper somewhere else, is that not fair play? Again, this is all as long as it's done in moderation, I have also noticed that it has kind of gotten out of hand as of late.

Somewhat related, but not exactly what you are after.
