morciu: Yeah I very pleased with most of the gog releases but this one just pushed my button.

tfishell: Heh, I guess most everyone has at least ONE GOG game that they haven't been able to run satisfactorily. I'm assuming you've skimmed the TR sub-forum and seen if any info there can help?

WAY overpriced, just ridiculous.

Qbix: tomb raider 1 is the GOG version actually

gogwrap.exe
game.gog
etc
I suspect that is part of the deal they make with publishers - we (GOG) get these games exclusive for a limited time, when exclusivity runs out, then you (the publisher) are allowed to sell our version of the game with what we've done to it on other digital distributors.

It would seem that way. I recall someone saying that the versions of the infinity engine games(Baldur's gate and the like) that you get on gamersgate and other sites even the retail D&D collection from what I heard are just the GOG versions and they even used the GOG installers (or was that a different game they got on GamersGate that used a GOG installer? I can't recall)

I believe you are correct.

Some quotes (not that you couldn't see these on the forum, obviously; I just posted b/c these stood out to me:

"@ OP, You idiot...Steam has sales of up to 80% off... I'm not talking about a specific sale right now or in the past. Dumbass. So they might buy it on Steam WHEN IT GOES ON SALE. Want me to draw you a picture?"

"I have a GOG account for a few years but have yet to buy anything from them as steam sales always get my spending money before them. So I'm for one glad they are on steam as it is my preferred digital platform. But GOG does pay better homage to the older games and test them for better compatibility before release; so to that I respect them. Also a DRM-less exe is usually more friendly to exe hacks or cheats or mods. Someday tho I will buy Decent Freespace off GOG and update it with the opensource updates."

"So why even ask this. I personally hate GoG and would never buy anything from them. The better question is: Who doesn't own these games already. And why is TR1 2 GB in size. "

"Why would you hate GoG? I prefer to buy my games on Steam for convenience but I like GoG's business strategy: not treating customers like criminals. I wish more companies in the game industry would take their lead *cough*EA*cough*"

" ['Why would you hate GoG'] was going to be my question. The only thing I don't like about them is they don't have a convenient download/installation managing system like Steam and Desura (though those can also be annoying *cough* Impulse *cough*). Apart from that, I can't think of anything negative about them."

One Account To Rule Them All. ;) "

Some people sure are spoiled like downloading and clicking an installer is going to kill you

Yeah I'm going to take your word for it as exposure to that much stupity(those posts in the links not your post) can't possibly be good for one's well being.

eh ... to be fair to a few of those posters I understand the impulse to use as few DD as possible just to keep things organized so it is easier to keep track of where all my games are from. I have accounts on a number of DDs and I don't like the lack of organization all that much. I can understand the wish for the convenience of having one account with everything in it. And I do try to limit myself now - but also because now my backlog is big. That said, your statement still stands for much of it I'm sure. :)

Antimateria: Sure is overpriced. Ten euros for one.. Haven't seen such a bad deal in ages. ^^
This is late November, so they're probably overcharging so they can slash most of the price when they do their big sales for Christmas.
Yeah, GOG has the better deal here. Now just you wait 'till TR games go on a big sale on Steam and end up in the same price range as GOG ones - people will jump at the Stem copies. Because they'll save so much money!

Well, for 4 and 5 it means they'll be well cheaper on Steam probably (once they get into decent discounts at least, which is unlikely at first for a 'new' release)

Up one for sheer stupidity...

GaminggUy45: are they greedy or do they think just because its on steam means that they can charge more
avatar
StingingVelvet: They are sadly correct though, a large portion of the Steam audience looks nowhere else or does not buy anywhere else if it isn't a Steam key.
I think it's a good thing they stay over there on Steam.
