Protoss: If you attack the servers of Valve and EA, you hurt the customers more than the companies. Think about it before you hack again! Also, there could be legal obligations from this to the customers as well, this could be very expensive for you, and they WILL catch you sooner or later!

If you don't like how Valve and EA work, start political petitions or something, but don't act like terrorist scum! At the moment you are nothing else! You are not Anonymous who fight against the bad guys, but you ARE the bad guys! Denying people access to parts of the internet is a method that is used by dictatorial regimes such as China, Russia, Iran and Germany. This is nothing that should be used by anyone fighting for a just cause.

I can imagine some of you reading the GOG forums because you like the idea of things being without DRM. This is all nice, but please don't enforce people who use DRM deliberately to suffer from your actions. I love GOG but I also love Steam, for different reasons. Yes, I hate EA, but this is not a reason to deny the EA users the access to Origin and Battlefield. What do you intend to get from this? Making people suffer even more?

You know that with very few exceptions companies don't change their models, and when they do then it is because of a public outcry and not because of terroristic actions.

Think about it!
Have not read the whole thing yet but I just like to say.

Why do we see these hackers as these rebels that like to fight against the big evil corporation.

How is it that there is no hacker that just hacks the site because he just either:

A. wants free content from the site wether games, comic books, etc.

B. wants to steal money from people's credit card info.

Makes me wonder why orginized crime figures like the Mafia does not hop on the hacking train.

monkeydelarge: There is a way to make it so giveaways don't show up on your screen...you know...

Weclock: Yeah, don't go to the GOG forums and you don't have to see any give aways.
That is one way but the not way I was talking about.
"don't act like terrorist scum!" :D That's a funny Oneliner! Could going to be the new Meme message. Hmmm... *starts to search matching images*

Ummm, You haven't been paying attention to hacking incidents over the past couple of decades, have you? Organized crime has been involved in hacking for a long, long time.
Terrorists won't let you play your vidya games?

Not sure if serious. :|

The way I interpret it, their motivation for hacking services such as Steam or Origin is to punish the customers -- that is, the ones supporting such services with their money. If it makes enough customers reconsider their buying habits, causing them to try out alternate ( DRM-free ) distributors and services, then it could have a potential long-term positive effect for everyone. ( Well, smaller distributors and the customers, mostly. )

Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit, and they're just doing it for the e-peen boost. Or because they were bored.

Mind you, I'm not saying I'm for or against this, because I mostly don't give a fuck either way.

Edit: "There was a DDOS attack a few days ago against EA and Valve, led by a terroristic group that called themselves something like Derp"

OK, that's just ridiculous. BRB -- currently busy laughing my ass off

I sort of chuckled though I shouldn't. I'm glad they did not target GOG. I mean GOG are the good guys. =D
I also doubt the community here has anything to do with them. Besides it's well known that a rival company don't do that kind of stuff anyway. Glad I'm a gog-only customer and well, sucks for the steam users. =)
I think you guys are being too hard on Protoss. I'm sure most of you would be calling the people who did something that made it impossible to access the things you enjoy for some time, "terrorist scum". You just don't give a shit about it now because you weren't affected or you hate Steam and Origin.

Personally, I just find it hard to take the whole thing seriously, if you guys keep throwing around terms like "terrorist scum".

But yeah, just imagine if the target of those filthy hack0rrists had been GOG -- none of us would have been able to play our games... oh wait.

Well, I'd be pissed as hell, since I spend a lot of time on this forum. But I still wouldn't call them terrorists, seeing as that's just ridiculous and disrespectful.

The German law defines them as terrorists since they founded an organisation that has the purpose of disturbing data handling of organisations. So stop complaining about my evil definition, it is an official German definition by law:
http://dejure.org/gesetze/StGB/129a.html with http://dejure.org/gesetze/StGB/303b.html

Surely to have it defined as terrorism they also have to intend consideable damage to an international organisation. So let us see:
Data sabotage - check!
Intending considerable damage against an International organisation - check!

Yes, they are terrorists by German law!

Congratulations, German law! Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go enjoy a computer game featuring swastikas, which is also illegal according to German law, so I guess that makes me a filthy criminal in your eyes, yes?
