Hmm. Never seen someone with a negative Rep (currently -3)...no wait, I do recall a spammer (not a troll) doing it one time.

PC gamers hated it because it was a console game...

Export: The "backlash" over DA2 happened entirely online and almost entirely due to PC gamers.
No it didn't.

avatar
Export: The game has now sold 2 million units
No it hasn't.

avatar
Export: reached 1 million sales faster than DAO did
Yes, but the bulk of the 400k PO's were due to DAO, so...

Some people here (a lot of them, really) took exception to GameRager's early posts - taking them at face value, rather than what he was actually saying.
Staff had to reset his really high -ve rep a couple of times.

While I may agree SOMEWHAT with TKC's OP in this, his subsequent posts remind me of an old Star Trek quote of Shakespeare - to paraphrase it a little : Angels and ministers of grace, defend us from Americans.
He's not doing himself any favours, but for the supposedly GOOD community here to react as they did with GameRager....kind of pathetic, IMO. Not so good community :(

Delixe: I don't know about you but two console owning friends of mine (one 360, one PS3) have both traded in their copies of DA2 and complained about exactly the same things PC gamers did. The outcry over DA2 is far more widespread than you think becuase if it was just PC gamers complaining then BioWare would be ignoring it as they ignored us during development of DA2.
Well obviously anecdotal evidence can only go so far, but all of my friends that saw it said it seemed a lot better than Origins, the people look less retarded, the voice acting is more consistent and it no longer has the cheesy "Only you can defeat the dragon and save the world!" plot.

I can definitely imagine people disliking it if they also didn't like Origins or other BW games - many of its objectively judged faults are shared with them, but it seems odd that a fan of Origins on console would go onto hate DA2 on console - at least if they're not fans of the old WRPGs where your party are mute dress-up dolls and only you can save the world, etc etc. I can see how the game is more suited to console than Origins and so PC gamers would be annoyed in that way.

The backlash hardly seems real when its selling faster than Origins, even after the negative publicity it's had online (then again, it just shows how no one in "real life" listens to rabid fanboys on internet forums) and when its Metacritic score, for what it's worth, is 8/10 compared to Origins 9/10 - and when you consider some of the 10/10s for Origins say things like "You will definitely replay this 4 times" you have to wonder how representative those people are when, according to Bioware's stats, most people only played it once and didn't even bother doing more than one origin story.

Lone3wolf: ...GameRager...
His went down into the negative too? Can't say I'm terribly surprised, the community does jump on him quicker than anyone else. But I was talking about a pure spammer some time back, posting nothing but links to electronics & fashion handbags & such.

Yeap. GameRager's was well over -250 when I stopped looking at it. Probably closer to -500 at one point.

Namur: Blah
Oh hey, misinformed fanboy!

First of all, even putting pre-orders aside (and much of the pre-launch backlash was people saying they've cancelled their pre-orders, by the way), it still sold more in its first week than Origins, even on PC. Earlier in May, it did indeed hit 2 million sales. So just because we're talking about a fantasy RPG, doesn't mean you can live in your own little fantasy world while we discuss real things.

Depends what the players are after. In the case of my two friends they were pissed off with recycled areas, nonsensical plot, respawing attack waves and your choices not actually having damn affect on the outcome. Origins was a breath of fresh air for them, something they don't get on consoles usually. DA2 is exactly like what they get on consoles and offered nothing new. Thats lots of DLC sales Bioware lost and two more second-hand copies in circulation.

As for DA2 selling faster than Origins well Namur is right there. It outsold Origins in it's first week because 400-500k sales were pre-orders, something DA:O didn't have. They have also only shipped 2 million, not sold 2 million and considering they were giving away Mass Effect 2 as well that's very low compared to the 5 million + Origins sold. If you check VGCharts you will see that Origins picked up sales as it went on due to word of mouth, the opposite has happened to DA2.

what the hell are yall talking about ??

i start this thread as a heartful compliment to the creators of this brilliant pc exclusive game.. a bunch of console haters jump in here hate and spill there oppinions and give me - feedback for my heartful message.. now we get a rant on how dragon age 2 kicks ass ? or sums**** ?

Dragonage 2 = Perfect Console Game For The Perfect Console Gamer
Witcher Series = PC GAME for PC gamers..

if a console owner wants to play a RPG havent u guys killed enough titles ?? Dragonage ? Fable ?

thekingcasper: Fable
Bad example. Fable was always a console RPG. Besides the point is there are plenty of console gamers that enjoy proper RPGs. Just look at all the praise the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games get and then the universal hatred of what has happened to Final Fantasy.

PC RPG's aren't being dumbed down, ALL RPG's are being dumbed down.

All games are being dumbed down thanks to consoles are there severe limited hardware.

The companies are working backwards instead of aiming for better each release there thinking consoles and making the same basic crap over and over with just a different storyline but who is to fault here ?? the console communities ? the rich fat cats who make no effort to bring out a updated console very few years and just sit back and rake in all the money while it kills off all the creative ideas ?...

who knows..it just needs to slow down or stop entirely ... keep PC developers PC and let the consoles keep the companies that have fell under the pressure
In regards to a console version, as long as you don't dumb down the PC version, then all's well.

I just want to also state: Thank you for your efforts CD Projekt RED! Thank you for investing care and effort into making a phenomenal game! And most importantly, thank you for treating your fans with respect and following through with honest values :)

Your choices in Origins didn't make any difference beyond the next cutscene. Whatever you did in the elven part, it had no impact after the cutscene other than determining what unit you can summon at the end. The differences in DA2 were more protracted and often wouldn't turn up until later (for example, whether or not your bro/sis dies, joins the Wardens, the Templars or gets taken by the Circle).

As I said in my last post, even putting pre-orders aside, it outsold DAO week by week. I'm not sure where you're getting 5+ million sales for Origins from, either. About a year ago it had sold 3.2 million worldwide (according to EA themselves). Since then no clear sales figure seems to have been announced, but it is known that the vast majority of them came in its first 6 months (according to HULIQ in the article I linked to earlier)

Simplifying RPG's to the point of monotony has nothing to do with console limitations and everything to do with appealing to casual gamers. The goal of every developer now is to be the next Minecraft, Farmville or World of Warcraft and that means appealing to everyone from the 6 year old to the 90 year old. That's what is killing our games, not consoles.
