GameRager: So how does that card I sent ya run it then? Any better?
Once I got my copy installed and patched up to 1.7, it runs really well, if I turn off all my other processes I can pretty much max out all the settings and still have it running smoothly.

I don't expect it to run that smoothly on TW2, but if it runs anything from a year or to that smoothly, then I won't need to upgrade until my next computer. It's great playing old games, you save so much money.

Good to hear it. Here's hoping you have loads of fun for years to come.

Since I bought the components, the only upgrades I've made are a bigger HDD and new video cards, it's a couple years old, but still keeps up admirably, considering it was a budget desktop kit to begin with is pretty impressive.

I'll likely be getting a new one soon, but mainly because I might be moving over seas and having a laptop would be desirable. Still plenty of time to get my moneys worth out of my most recent upgrade though.

To the OP: I would send you my GeForce 9400 GT for the cost of shiping, but the cost of shipping is going to make that way too expensive. The board as good as it is isn't likely to be worth more than $10.
Skip Fallout 3 and just play New Vegas ;)

Sounds good....i'm a performance snob to an extent though so I like having the extra headroom whenever possible.

Also btw can't OP buy a card from that guy who offered you that other video card in the thread I did? AFAIK that other guy lived in the EU as well.

The OP is from New Zealand, it would probably be similarly expensive to ship from there. Besides, IIRC somebody already claimed that one.

I'm inclined to agree, though Fallout3 wouldn't likely be as fun if you know what FO:NV is like to play. FO3 isn't bad, it just isn't really a Fallout game the way that FO:NV is.

And for those that don't yet own a copy, I'd definitely consider waiting until we know what the GOTY is going to be and for all the DLC to be released.

I'm hoping Fallout 3 GotY has included all released DLC.

There's no way my PC will run New Vegas - they upped the requirements on that game.

Yes GOATEE version has all 5 DLC included.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

At the moment it's actually 1 less than Fallout 3, 4 DLC in total. Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Lonesome Road, Old World Blues. Amazon already leaked a GOTY image on their website so assuming it's coming in time for christmas there isn't much time to add many more.

You will actually be overwhelmed by the amount of content that all adds up to. If you take your time exploring the Wasteland and all the DLC you are easily running over 100 hours on your first playthrough so it's very good value for money.

carnival73: Not quite sure how this will run on my
AMD 2400+ (2.6ghz) SSE CPU
with 1 Gig Ram
and
nVidia GeoForce 7300 GT 512 MB

And the only place I know that I can try before I buy is EB Games and they no longer stock it here in NZ.

Do you all know of any demos out there or sites that have a good return policy? I was planning on Steam because they are good at keeping things updated but not sure what kind of run around I'd get if it doesn't run on my system.
It's going to stutter like hell exactly when you don't want to stutter. It's worth playing but you're not going to like it much on that rig, sorry:(

Yeah, I'm not going to risk it until it turns up at physical shop that I can return it to if there's a problem or when i finally get a new PC.
What piece of hardware does he need to upgrade to fix the plot?

I'd focus on the RAM, personally. I was running it windowed without much trouble on my rig. It had a GeForce 6100, 4gb of RAM and a AMD dual core clocked at 2.6 ghz IIRC.

Sogi-Ya: no matter what you wont be happy, Fallout 3 is just as much of a console game as Oblivion was so even if you could get the GFX running fully the crappy PC controls will ruin every ounce of fun there is to be had.

unless you get a Xbox 360 controller, then it will play fine except for the UI that was designed to be viewed on a 40 inch HDTV from across the room.

Pheace: Purely your opinion. I had plenty of fun with Fallout 3 with mouse and Keyboard. Nothing that detracted from my experience of the game.
I second this opinion.

Fallout 3 plays wonderfully on the PC... And the traditional mouse/key controller is, in my opinion, far superior to the Xbox controller.
