Hi lads,

I am new on GOG and have a little question:

I am running i.e. Battle Isle Andosia Conflict and I am having this really annoying title bar over the top and a blue frame around the whole thing, which is blocking part of the game. It doesn´t matter if I run full-screen or not.

Yes, I am running on a Windows 8.1 Machine.

I already tried to find solutions on the web, but can´t find anything usefull there. (like the option with Windows-key + F11)

Seems to be a NEW feature, which nowbody needs.

Does any of you have a clue, suggestion or similar, how to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance

If needed I could supply a screenshot.

Edit: attached the link for the workaround/solution https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming

Thanks to DyNaer

I recall e.g. Gothic (GOG-version) having a similar issue in Windows 8 (not Windows 7, and I think GOG fixed it for Gothic games also for Windows 8.x users later on), so maybe the same fix works also for Battle Isle? Relevant links:

http://www.gog.com/forum/gothic_series/gog_vs_gamersgate_versions/post4

http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/4-gothic-and-gothic-ii-windows-8-fixes/

The latter link has a fix for Gothic games, but it has details what exactly it is changing:

This works by applying the following compatibility fixes to Gothic.exe, Gothic2.exe and GothicMod.exe:
ForceSimpleWindow (hides window border)
DXPrimaryEmulation -DisableMaxWindowedMode (fixes frame rate isssues)
Maybe someone else (Arkose?) knows how to apply that fix manually in Windows 8.x.

Just tried all the links.

The http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1340357-Release-Gothic-%C2%BD-%C2%97-SystemPack-%28ENG-DEU%29 is asking for the specific Gothic version

and the other link

[url=http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/4-gothic-and-gothic-ii-windows-8-fixes]

did something, but still trying to find where it changed what, but it didn´t help.

Goodaltgamer: Just tried all the links.
I didn't mean you should install any of those Gothic specific fixes, but to somehow manually apply the same "ForceSimpleWindow" compatibility fix for the Battle Isle game (to the battle isle exe file, I guess).

I am unsure how to do that, hopefully someone else is able to tell the exact steps.

Your description of the border window problem just sounded similar that I also earlier saw with Gothic on Windows 8.

By the sound of it, it is the same problem.

And as I wasn´t sure out of the descriptions in those links I just tried ;)

Sometimes those fixes do work (like changing the registry of similar), that´s why I tried, also hoping that there is something which could be manually applied, unfortunatly there isn´t.
Did you contact Support? This doesn't sound like a features, it sounds like a Win8 issue that GOG needs to address.

No I didn´t do it yet.

I do have the same problem on other games as well (some of my God old games I still play). But I haven´t figured out yet, why some games have this stupid title bar and others don´t.

That´s why I thought I start first in the forum, instead of support.
I'm hoping Arkose to notice this thread... Maybe Google could also tell how to apply those compatibility flags or fixes manually to an executable.

In the end, GOG could also implement the same fix to the game themselves, but until then, Win8.x users could apply it already now.

I had this issue, too, but if I recall correctly, for me it was related to outdated installer versions. GOG silently updated a lot of games with Win 8 compatibility without announcing it, and if you downloaded your installer before they adjusted it to be compatible to the new OS, that's when the issue can appear.

It sounds like you bought and downloaded the game only recently though, judging by your registration date, so the installer should be Win 8 compatible already, and if there are issues with it, you'd best report them to Support (if you bought the game recently, you might still be eligible for the Money-Back-Guarantee, so Support would have an interest in helping you solve your problem quickly. ;)

As mentioned before, I have the problem on some of my other old games as well, but if i don´t get a good solution, I might have to contact support ;)

At least then ( I hope) I will have one game less with this annoying title bar :P

And yes, you are right, but I think I am already out of the 30 days......yes, just a few days....shall have not gone on this vaccation.....

Just some more info:

I checked with Compatibility Administrator a few things:

pre-installed by GOG ( I assume) is ForceSimpleWindow

I even activated ForceDisplayMode with ,,, (shall use desktop settings)

no change, still this title bar there.....

Funny is, that i.e. Port Royal 2, which I run in Comp mode as well, doesn´t have this setting at all and has NO title bar.....it is not even found to have any comp. fix at all.....

still playing around
ok, I tried with my old copy of earth2150 as well, which has the same problem. Actually don´t know if the GOG version has this problem or not.......

I activated ForceSimpleWindow as well as ForceDisplayMode and there still the same as well.

Any feedback/help is still appriciated ;)

or in other words: HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!! :P

I still cannot see why some games have it and some don´t.......

for the version what's the gog's build version for earth 2150 you have , and if you have the same version here a md5 of the installer (i checked it recently , so it's the latest one)

75d4960ffd1a5e0d14919493af9b440f *setup_earth_2150_trilogy_2.0.0.8.exe

as pointed out gog sometimes updates the installer without notification , and the worst part they re-use the latest build number, only way to "know it" is to run the downloader to chek the installer.....

after that , you really should edit your original post , because you don't mention what videocard you have and what driver version is installed (some games have issues with some recents drivers and / or depending the constructor ATI / NVIDIA)

could be really a win 8.1 specific issue as mentioned , but i'm clueless there, i'm running win 7 ...

except to try to run some culprits games borderless with this tool , no idea if this workaround would help ...

You could try Windowed Borderless Gaming to simulate fullscreen and see if that gets rid of the title bar and border.

OK, I just tried out the SW pointed out by you:

IT WORKS!!!! (for the GOG Battle Isle Andosia War)

But maybe I wasn´t clear enough, which doesn´t NOW make sense at all:

I AM running ALL games in FULL mode!

So why is this tool, supposed to change a WINDOWed game into a FULLscreen game changing the behaviour of a fullscreen game?

Doesn´t really make sense.....

And by the way, as I stated the earth 2150 was NOT GOG, only a comparision, that other games (non-GOG) have the same problem ;)

About Windows version: I just tried a kind of really old game: Perry Rhodan made by fanpro, and it doesn´t have the title bar at all (Date 1996 and original ;) )

And that was the reason why I posted this in the general forum and not in BI, so other users might find this as well.

Merci beaucoup pour l'excellente aide

Still hoping to find the real reason behind.........

But don´t get me wrong, I would still like to know exactly why this happens ;)

And Hardrada: No I prefer open source :)
