It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

UPDATE (2011-04-09): Now your custom style choice is saved, and reapplied when you load the page again (on the same computer and browser, it's stored with cookies). Again, you'll need to redownload the script.

UPDATE (2011-04-07): Beyond the initial "rainbow butterflies", and the original "wooden" and "matte black", you can now also chose between "pure black" and "transparent" (both quick and easy make) - you'll have to redownload the script if you already got it.

------------
Another of my completely useless but slightly funny projects is finished enough to show off.

Here's a greasemonkey script to add more backgrounds to that shelf of yours. There are no drawbacks (that I know of) that makes it worse than the default shelf, but a couple things are yet to be added:

* There's only a single custom background yet (dubbed "rainbow butterflies")
* The custom setting isn't saved, instead each time you reload the shelf, it'll be reset to the last standard background you used.
* The custom background doesn't have an icon, but is only displayed by text in the chooser list.

The script has only been tested on Firefox 4 (I'll test Chrome and Opera later, unless you do it for me, and I'll make a Safari add-on as well). Explorer users are free to find a solution letting them run user scripts, but they're on their own.

That said, have fun. Please chime in with improvements and ideas of new backgrounds. As for why, the idea started with LordKuruku, read the whole story a few posts down.

Pretty cool but dear god, that rainbow scheme is... *hurls myself to the bathroom and stumbles around looking for eye-bleach*

What about something more spartan? I.e. Black?

Or try and do your favorite GOG game, make it themed like that. For example, for Heroes III (Or more to the point, 2) make the shelves like an intertwined tree limb with magic "sparks" and a sprite or two.

Know what I mean?

You could even do a MoO2 theme, make it space-agey - hologram bases for each game with a very faint translucent layer OVER the game so it looks like it is in suspended animation.

Etc :)

I have to say though, kudos! You've definitely got a good thing going there. (Sell it to GOG? :P)
The background was done after LordKuruku made a screenshot of their shelf and sneaked in an extra theme button for "psychedelic rainbow", Master911 asked how that background looked, and I made a mock-up using a rainbow butterfly pattern I found somewhere. Then I used that same pattern here because I couldn't be arsed to make another pattern before the script worked.

And there's the story and reason for "rainbow butterflies".

Virama: a very faint translucent layer OVER the game
I'm not sure I can provide that... possible, yes (everything is possible, the impossible just takes a little longer), but probably requires a lot more tricky code.

Well, I, for one, think it's great of you to offer something nifty to the GOG community. I'm sure there will be multiple options available in the future for those who have something against brightly colored butterflies.

They already have support for multiple backgrounds and can add more as they wish, I'm just adding support for backgrounds hosted elsewhere (at my server, specifically).

Pure black rather than the "matte black" already available?

EDIT: there you go, just a flat black background

IKEA shelves for GOG? Sure, why not?

Clearly, the LGBT demographic have a horrible taste in interior decoration.
Hey, I've had psychedelic rainbow since last year!

Look at the bottom in the picture. See?

Actually, no, that isn't what I meant. I was thinking more like a classic black design - I have only seen a very few websites successfully pull that off - nice clean lines, tasteful use of white (lines or translucent lighting).... In fact, I'd say predcon has it right - IKEA style but IN BLACK. Not white.

I am compelled to object. Whilst being straight (hell, I had to google LGBT just to be sure I had gotten you guys right) I live with a lesbian couple and have many L/G friends and I have yet to see that mythical rainbow unicorn of supreme gayboydom design that seems to have been a slander/media attack on the gay community. (Mardigras excepted)

And I DEFINITELY haven't seen anyone dress up like this....

Damuna: I fall under the LGBT banner, so I guess I should explain: Even within LGBT communities stereotypical images of queers tend to be used jokingly - for example, I found it hilarious when told by a friend the other day that one of the guys couldn't make it to a meeting because he was doing ballet. It is of course entirely possible for someone to legitimately follow a stereotypically queer lifestyle, but the fact that such a lifestyle is not representative of the people in question as a whole is why it is used as a source of humour.
Fair enough. :)

I guess I do get tired of stereotypical labels so I felt compelled to make sure it wasn't a redneck "Oh you know them queers." "Yeah, Lars, I shot one the other day. Squealed like an opera whatdoyachallims."

/back on topic ladeez and gennulmen.

Those aren't the pride flag colours. But if I squint, I can pretend.

P.S. I still think it's quite pretty, Miaghstir. ✭✭✭✭

... is that... SEANBABY?
While I appreciate your effort, Miaghstir, I still prefer original Wooden. But that's just my preference, I'm very open to seeing any more new shelves you make. Maybe a nice shiny steel shelf would look good?
Bookmarked.
Did you perchance mean "Tired of Ikea"? :P
