So how does my fellow gogians like the current series of red dwarf i must admit i quite like it.

Yeah, back on form I reckon! Last series or two were decidedly ropey, and I did have real reservations about them resurrecting it - but it has definitely paid off.

So far so good.

yeah i agree after back to earth didnt think red dwarf would ever recover.

It's been good so far. Previous series have really crammed in the puns and not bothered at all about continuity. This series seems more character driven. Which I suppose is appropriate given that we've come to love the characters.

But it does mean that (so far) it's not exactly the definitive series. While it has more going for it in some ways it's slightly lacking in others. But yeah, overall I'm glad it's back and I'm loving it so far.

Loving it, the writing is back on par with around series 4 era I think.

Setting on the episodes is pretty good, back to the way things were. I think its the last episode on Thursday night though :(

Hello fellow Dwarfers and Smegheads! I, too, wish to voice my love of Series X. While I honestly loved everything except Back to Earth (I refuse to acknowledge that shipwreck as Series IX), I am happy the episodes of Series X have been fantastic. Yes it is true Thursday is the last episode, but if this series is any indication of the return to form and quality for the boys from the Dwarf, I eagerly anticipate Series XI.

I do hope they bring back Norman or Hattie as Holly, but who knows if that will happen. I am partially interested if they will find Kochanski or not, but I am interested to see where they go with that plot thread. I know I said I don't like Back to Earth, however, I must confess when Lister is sitting there reading Sense & Sensibility and tearing up a bit, heart breaking and a rather touching scene.

P.S. Who else would love them to use the Danny John-Jules version of the theme song used somewhere?

Yeah, it's certainly been entertaining.

I wouldn't put it on par with Red Dwarf's 3, 5, or 6 (those being, for me, Red Dwarf at its best), but it's certainly had me laughing in a way that I haven't for nearly thirteen years.

If there's one thing that's starting to bug me though, it's this: they keep bumping into ships, space stations, even genetically engineered life forms, all of which originated from Earth, but are apparently nowhere near it? Or have yet to come across the means to reach it? I think not.

But beyond that, it's damn fun to see them back, and I hope that, when time finally must be called on the whole enterprise, it gets a decent send off.

That's a shame. I vastly preferred him to the female Holly variety.

I think they are getting close to Earth, the first episode Lister was watching a TV broadcast shopping channel, then on the phone to place an order. Going on this they must be getting somewhere near some sort of civilisation I have been thinking.


Yeah, Holly was an awesome character, added to everything that was going on really well. Never know though, things may get sorted out somehow and we may see Holly again. He was such an integral part to Season 1 & 2, added to the comedy perfectly.

I wasn't expecting much from this series but i have really enjoyed it.

Does anyone else think Kryten looks a bit cheap looking?

The face seems the wrong colour, his legs look terrible and his hands just look like a rubbish pair of gloves.

He's always been my favourite character too hence my name :)

Don't like his new design, the thing I noticed immediately was the loops round his shoulders, they look so out of place. Must admit though, haven't been noticing them as much last few episodes as the stories and antics they get up to have been awesome.

Favourite episode this season by far has been when Lister gets drunk and does the video to himself as a father, absolutely awesome.

For me, I like Red Dwarf X. It is definitely better than "Back to Earth" but I don't think it is quite as good as the earlier series.

Just a note to others, Back to Earth (Series IX) is supposedly set after Red Dwarf X. Below is the mini-series description from the back cover of the DVD (it is also referenced within the episodes):

Back to Earth takes place after 'series ten'. Kochanski is dead and the crew are hurled through a portal and discover they are just characters from a TV series.

Knowing they will die in the final episode the Dwarfers, in best Blade Runner traditions, decide to track down their creators to discover how long they have left to live. First the crew attempt to track down the actors who play them in the series and their metaphysical odyssey begins...

I'm not going to give away any spoiliers, other than to say that it all works out in the end.

Now, Holly was not present in Back to Earth as he was out of commission because Lister left a bath running in the officer's quarters for nearly nine years and the Skutters still hadn't finished drying him out. So, with neither Holly nor Kochanski being in Red Dwarf X, their disappearance must have taken place after Series VIII and before Series X (assuming BTE is after RDX).

This said, there are many on the Red Dwarf forums saying that BTE after Series Ten was just an in-joke. This is quite possible, but similarly the plot doesn't exclude the possibility that it is indeed after Red Dwarf X.

The last episode of Red Dwarf X (Thursday!) is called The Beginning and there are rumours that it might explain what happened after the end of Series VIII where they escaped to the mirror universe. If this is the case then we might just find out for sure whether BTE is before or after RDX.
