(Sigh)
While I can't say I disagree with everyone who's arguing for flaming cars and castration and all that stuff, I'm just wondering what'd be the point? It's not as if that's going to -teach- anyone anything. The simple fact is that guys like this have beliefs so extreme and so unshakable that they're willing to do things this horrific to their own flesh and blood for reasons we can never hope to understand. Us getting angry and frustrated and doing horrible things to them in return isn't going to change their minds, if anything it's simply going to galvanize the mentality that our "Western" culture is some kind of depraved, decadent one.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning this. NOT. The guy's a lunatic in my view, I just don't know what to -do- about it since taking the dude's balls, like I said, won't change his mind. He won't care. He's convinced he did the right thing. Whether that's because he's a goddamn psycho already and he just had a convenient "excuse" in that his culture's laws gave him the leeway he needed to do something like that, or whether he's a product of a culture that preaches closed-mindedness and therefore hatred, I don't know. I can't say.
But whatever it is, it kind of depresses me that I honestly just don't know what to do about stuff like that.
The best solution I can come up with is what Shalgroth said, which is essentially "This is how we do things in this country. If you don't like it, don't live here." I mean, I certainly wouldn't move over there because I couldn't deal with their practices, any more, apparently than they could deal with ours. So I simply wouldn't put myself in a situation where I'd go crazy enough to murder my own family.
One has to wonder what their impetus even -was- for moving to the U.S., though, if culture/heritage was so important it was worth killing over. Because it's almost impossible to avoid cultural bleed-through when you're living in a foreign nation. People, especially younger people simply can't and won't isolate themselves like that.
