I'm to lazy and tired to respond to this. Let's just take Turkey as an example. Or the Lebanon, Beirut is not without reason called the Paris of the middle east. Indonesia is also very western in many regards. Especially considering it's geographical drawbacks. And then we have those little emirates like Katar or Kuwait.

And the current generation of young Iranians is actually a lot better educated than most "western counterparts". I've learnt quite a lot about Hegel and Kant from an iranian philosophy student.

The middle east is fascinating area to travel and visit. Although my Syria trip is put on hold for now. I don't like northern africa however. And I wouldn't oppose the bombing of Morokko that much.

All in all the current shape, especially of the middle east is the meddling of former colonial powers and the cold war. Who knows how Iran would look today without Operation Ajax, or Afghanistan without the soviet invasion (it was very modern in the 70s, more progressive than some parts of the US actually). Keeping Wahhabi extremists in power in Saudi Arabia wasn't really a smart move to begin with. Oh, and backing that upstart Saddam in Iraq to combat Iran in one of the gruel wars since WW2 didn't really help progress in the area.

All said and done, misconceptions about islamic nations and the middle east are quite common in the west (or east, or far east for that matter).

I dislike bigotry and intolerance no matter where it lies, Christianity is generating most of the bigotry that comes from the US. There is no "loves Islam or Christianity" for me, I tolerate members of both religions when they refrain from being destructive to those around them.

The reason I don't like you is that you foment bigotry and destruction. You're not teaching any of the things your Jesus taught, you just cherry pick those few parts of the Bible that support your preconceived notions. You can claim that your religion is less violent based on a comparative lack on civil war and totalitarian rule in your country. Yet, the number of people murdered each year on your streets is exponentially higher than the number of lives lost recently in the conflicts you sighted in Afghanistan, Libya, etc. There were more gang related deaths in the US last year than the entire decades long conflict in Northern Ireland (oh no wait, bad comparison as they are BOTH Christian nations...).

So what does that make you and your religion using your initial "they bring it upon themselves" yardstick? Has the American public risen up against the people conducting mass killings on your streets? Clearly that's a rhetorical question, as the answer is evidently a resounding no.

Another point to consider is that all of the nations you sighted haven't just developed these problems on their own. The US has been bombing Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya for decades, and it's impossible for anyone to say whether they might have been more or less stable without the chronic mass violence inflicted by your nation.

Just out of curiosity, what education do you have and do you own a passport?
