+1 for speaking the truth...and I know quite a few of 'em.
I'm probably the only one here who agrees with Weclock. I like animals, and I think that they should definitely be treated humanely, and that people shouldn't treat animals like they did to this cat, but all this stuff about treating animals as humans (like... we let them vote?) and PETA saying we should drink beer instead of milk, and that meat is murder and your mom kills animals because she wears fur coats is utter insanity. The whole culture where it's like "I'm going to hunt this fucker down because he mauled a cat" is crazy. Have you thought about "I'm going to hunt this fucker down because he raped his daughter and fathered his grandchildren in a basement"? No. You'd probably feel sickened about it, but you wouldn't be so vocal about it. But change "raped daughter" to "tortured cat" and the whole world goes nuts about animal cruelty and all that.
I sometimes eat dog meat when I'm in China because it's illegal in Hong Kong. The media goes all apeshit about this, going "How could you eat that puppy?" and all that. Well, I'm not eating a puppy and even if I was eating a polar bear I stoned to death, it wouldn't be any of your fucking business. People. They're just little furry things. They're no different to grinding baby chicks alive, but yet most of you still eat chicken and you don't feel disgusted about whatever happened at the processing factory.
Anyway. That probably didn't make much sense, but I really don't care.
This is my personal opinion:
We're actually doing a lot of work on "who counts" in ethics, and basically, you can observe the human race is incredibly speciesist. It's similar to racism; we eat pigs, cows etc. but we don't NEED to, because we believe we are able to reject our primal instincts unlike oher species. We treat animals as second class citizens.
Why is this? We consider self-awareness a part of considering things tat count in ethics. In this case, shouldn't coma patients and children be treated as animals are because they aren't as self-aware as adults?
Now this is just a personal opinion. I myself and vegetarian and have been for 5 years. I think it all comes down to personal preference, but really, we have to consider what we're doing can be compared to older histrorical events.
Look, I agree with some of tehe points made here. And

Not the only one, no.
I hate when people abuse animals but I don't understand what this hype is all about.
Few days ago I watched the news and there was a big affair and everyone got upset about some guy who killed dogs in order to make lard of them. Well I wouldn't eat that but I don't agree whith other hypocryts making a big deal out of it and then going to KFC for a bucket of hot wings (15 chickens had to lay down their lives to give that asshole a meal and nobody gives a shit about it) or a hamburger in mcdonalds.

No, you're wrong (and so is PETA, of course). You're saying that all animals are equal - but they aren't. Dogs aren't equal to chicken. They are much more intelligent, and capable of much more advanced emotions. Even emotions that we consider human in their nature. The same could be said about pigs, of course, but that's not the point. The point is they're not just "little furry things". That's a very ignorant viewpoint (and sadly one that many animal rights activists share).
Edit: Summit, you'd have more of a point if they just threw away the rest of the chicken, but obviously they didn't. They used the rest of the meat for other things.

In Japan they hunt dolphins on a reguler basis which are considered to be one of the most intelligent mammals and you hear nothing about this on the news. But when a guy kills a few dogs to eat them everybody goes crazy. I hate hypocrits. Period.

Maybe you don't, but I hear quite a lot about such situations in the news. Maybe it is because my country has a particular position when it comes to hunting marine mammals (and not one I'm very proud of, TBH).
But don't tell me that what Japan is doing isn't considered highly controversial internationally. I don't think there's any hypocrisy going on there.

There is actually quite a lot of international concern over Japan's killing of both whales and dolphins.

I didn't realize the GOG forums were shared by the PETA files website.

They're not. PETA got it all backwards too. Not all people who love animals believe in PETA.
Are you in any way capable of looking at a situation without generalizing or stereotyping it? Or would that just require so much of your brainpower that your other organs might shut down?

So how long to you plan to keep trolling it up in this thread?

Until I'm no longer entertained.
Seriously though, I'm really surprised at the number of animal zealots, I've spoken to a number of people in other places, and this is the only place where I've gotten any backlash.

Probably because trolling is uncommon here. Especially from the higher repped regulars. People don't see it for what it is right away.

I don't understand that either.
The same argument could be applied to cows and pigs. "How could you eat that cute cow?"
However, the cows that people eat aren't usually the cute black and white ones. They're usually the smelly, dirty black cows.
