DCT: Look I get you guys are miffed that Linux wasn't announced, I don't fault people for being a bit miffed but let's be honest here you all were told countless times that right now it's not feasible for GOG to support Linux, right?

Duffadash: To be fair, you would assume the amount of sales was at least somewhat proportional to the amount of people who want support for the OS. Go to the wishlist and look at how many votes are in favour of Linux, versus how many people want Mac. That is just plainly a message to the Linux users, that GOG doesn't care about them. No wonder a couple of people are pissed.
That show that Mac users aren't here yet - adding Mac support is easier and brings in new people. It's not a screw you to Linux, it's recognition that Linux is harder to give official support for for many games. It will happen and adding Mac OS support makes Linux support more likely and more likely to happen sooner.

Look when it's all said and done Linux users have to think and realize that it was a matter of what they(GOG) could do at this point in time and MAC OSX where you have a limited number of hardware variations and what only 3 Versions of OS to make games compatible for which is easier for them at this stage then Linux with it's dozens of different distros and varying Hardware which is more work, sure they can just focus on working with one or two distros but then people will be complaining up a storm that their specific Distro is not suppourted and if they say hey we suppourt Linux now and the game doesn't work with Mint or Unbutu or whatever properly guess what bitching and complaining and their rep takes a hit.

Honestly I rather them do what is feasible for them to do now especially if it doesn't effect the Windows releases. I'm sure down the line when they can find a way to suppourt Linux in a way that will statisfy the majority of Linux users and not take away man hours and resources from Windows releases then more then likely they will do it then.

DCT: Downrepping someone you don't agree with not really, at least for me. Downrepping someone who expresses their opinion like a entitled ass or is being a whiny jerk because they didn't hear what they want, yes. Look I get you guys are miffed that Linux wasn't announced, I don't fault people for being a bit miffed but let's be honest here you all were told countless times that right now it's not feasible for GOG to support Linux, right? Right so what do you guys expect that there all the sudden were going to change their minds and announce it? What gave anyone the inclination that it was going to happen any time soon? Look it's one thing to be dissapointed about it but don't start running up and down and pissing in everyone elses cherrios because you didn't hear what you wanted to hear as all it does is make you guys look like childish brats. I'm not saying not to expresse yourself or your dissapointment I'm just saying don't be like the OP and be a whiney jerk about it.
Sometimes the counter-arguments are whiny and annoying too.

The counter-counter ones can be as well

Go to the wishlist and look at how many votes are in favour of System Shock 2, versus any other game. By your logic that means that GoG is pissing on System Shock fans as well, not that it's unfeasible at this time. Just because a lot of people whish for something really hard it doesn't mean it is a thing that can be done within a reasonable effort at the time.

No, it's not from a business standpoint. Linux support would be nice, but so far (the new disastrous Windows version will change that hopefully) it's really more of a niche. More money to be made with MACOSX.

Are you saying that the reason we don't get Linux support is because the rights aren't in order (or rather, "not free enough")?
Also, all of the games that are available for Mac right now (except for the Witcher games) runs through DosBOX, ScummVM or has native Linux clients already. DosBOX and ScummVM has binaries for all major Linux distros.
Even if it's too much trouble to make binaries for all different distros, Ubuntu has already been chosen as the mainstream distro, supported by Humble Bundle and Steam. And even then, there's always the possibility of just making cross-platform .sh or .bin binaries.

The rights for System Shock 2 are in order, it's just one company that blocks progress because they want like a gazillion dollars because they know that without them nothing can happen. Sure, GoG could throw lots of money at them and get the license, but would it make sense from a business standpoint?
The same goes for Linux, they could throw extra money at a special team to do it, but at the moment the cost outweights the benefit. Supporting Mac is easier, so it is cheaper, so it makes more sense to support Mac first. It's as simple as that. Part of the GoG principles has always been that what they support officially works out of the box. Supporting only one distro would be against GoG's priciples.

DCT: How so? Mac you only have to work with 1 form of the OS , if you can get a game running on one MAC it's more then likely to work with other macs baring widely varying hardware and minimum/recomended specs of course, while Linux you have to work with what over a dozen or more diffrent distros? So say they suppourt Ubutu then the guy using Mint or whatever is going to pitch a fit that their version of Linux is not supported despite being told "hey were supporting Linux" GOG has said many, many of times that as it stands they have no desire to support linux as it would be too hard for them to properly test each release due to all the various Distros there are and until there is more streamlining of Linux distros or a way for them to release games that work on enough versions of linux it's probably not going to happen. Sure you can bring up "well Humble does it" yeah and look at the mess that is Humble's support twitter and look at all the complaints from people who's games don't work proper with this distro or that plus don't get me started on the whining about games that use Wine, same with quite a few games on Desura to name a few examples.
I stopped reading about one fifth of the way through your post. Please read up on how driver software and graphical APIs work before telling me how Linux development is done.

At two and a half grands. That's simply ludicrous.

I don't care about Apple love/hate, but that price really is ridiculous...

For work it's turned on 120h at week (most of the time rendering with Adobe Premeiere and After Effects) since two years and a half. NEVER a single hiccup. Amazing machine and software (10.6). Even silent.
