Lodium: I have a question
Isnt it so that the licence to a particullar game or movie can expire?
Something in the lines of said product needs to be 150 years old or something before it goes public domain
though if the licence is renewed then the time before the license is expired is extended.
Or im i mixing something else up?...
cogadh: It varies by country, but the standard seems to be right around 50 - 70 years for most. Some add "the life of the work's creator plus 50 years" and that gets really complicated when the "creator" is a corporation, not a person, but what it all boils down to, is unless copyright law is altered significantly in the near future, no video game will enter the public domain naturally within most of our lifetimes. It will be close to the 22nd century before that starts to happen, under current laws.
Those copyrigth laws gets me really confused in some cases.
