I was wondering if this site would be gracing us with any of the games in the fantastic Thief series, though mainly I was curious about The Dark Project or The Metal Age, rather than Dark Shadows

Vote for them here until Gog updates the Wanted List and brings it back to Gog's website:
Gog.com/en/wanted

Or buy them from Steam/etc in the meantime if you just want to play them and don't mind using Steam.

Gamersgate sells Thief : The Dark Project.

I recommend people play the original then the Gold version as they play totally differently mission wise in some spots, among other things. Just a casual aside.

Yeah. If you are going to get the first Thief you really need to get Thief Gold. If nobody is selling it right now check eBay or just bide your time. It's worth it.

I still recommend playing vanilla first.....Gold is awesome but it replaces some stuff you'd miss if you played Gold first.
I don't even have Gold, I just have the original. If GOG does ever get Thief I would imagine it would be Gold, so I would play that version then.
Yes, must go after the trickster ;) . Great game play, good story line, and quality graphics for its time.

I have a hard copy of Thief The Dark Project. Think it's a good idea to get the Gold version? I've heard there are some new missions in there, but if there aren't any big changes, there's really no point in getting it.

There's some new missions, and some old missions are changed to reflect the new missions being added. They are worth it though, if that's what you're asking.
Cool thanks. I'll source for a copy on eBay. I love the Thief series to death.

Another factoid: If you play through the game on different difficulties it not only changes objectives but also moves some quest items to different places or even changes the wording in some of the notes/etc found in the levels.

When I play now it's mostly on expert but when I started I played each difficulty through the whole game in turn.

Ghosting is a lot of fun. I mostly ghosted my way through in Deadly Shadows (the name still makes me giggle), and ghosted all the way through until Life of the Party in Metal Age, but there were a few instances where ghosting was impossible in DS if I'm not wrong.

By the way guys, check out The Dark Mod for a modern Thief. The guys of that project did a GREAT job with id Tech 4. It really feels like what I'd expect from Thief 3. There are some technical kinks in there though due to it being a free project, but still, it is very professionally done.

Yeah like walking the streets looking for new areas/targets/missions, some streets were almost fully lit. And without any climbing items it was a wee bit difficult.

You won't miss anything at all except revised item placements in certain levels. All the same levels, content and plot are there, plus more levels and some item and enemy placement tweaks to some of the existing ones.
