Interesting. Good find, thanks.

I'm still not holding my breath, but we'll see. DXHR was pretty good.
Nice. Not sure if anyone will get this but...OMG, it's the Bow Upgrade!
Super excited for this one. Thanks for the link, it probably wont be up long.
I don't believe in leaking when it comes to promotional materials.
I do hope it has third person execution moves. It was the one thing that the originals lacked. That and bullet time and shitty, tacked-on multiplayer. Yes, I'm highly sceptical.

Meanwhile, go play some fan missions for Thief 1 and 2: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=100
They're excellent.

They did not tack on multiplayer to DX:HR either. And the 3rd person execution moves they did put in are not that much different from "hit on the head with your blackjack" of Thieves 1 through 3 (also, one of the knockout animations is still hilarious regardless of how many times I've seen it).

I was highly sceptical, but after DX:HR, I'm looking forward to it. That studio knows what it's doing; the game couldn't be in more capable hands, IMO.

It could be in much worse hands, agreed. I wasn't as enamoured with DX:HR as most are, though. It not only "was not a perfect game" but it was significantly cut down, simplified, and mechanics were added that didn't make sense.

Thief, moreover, relied on atmosphere and immersion more than Deus Ex, and switching to third person ruins that immersion somewhat. There really is a difference between you seeing the knife/blackjact connect with the enemy in first person and watching a canned animation.

Also, Thief 4 is supposed to have multiplayer and it's supposed to play a big part. Plus, the developers uttered the magic phrase "we're trying a new approach" which is not a good sign in my eyes.

I bitch because I care, somewhat. :D

Yeah, I know what you mean. On the other hand, I thought HR's approach of changing perspectives pretty much all the time was good in giving you a smoother option of looking behind corners than first-person leaning, and the knockouts were a logical extension of that. Though it would definitely be nice if they added leaning as well for those who found it immersion-breaking. In an ideal world, the same would go for the animations, I guess.

(I sort of hope they return to the body awareness of Deadly Shadows, too. I know it's been a controversial decision, but I liked it myself.)

Oh dear. I didn't know that. That makes no sense for the Garrett we know.

DX does most things right, but it also has sluggish stealth mechanics, which are acceptable but not perfect. This makes it easier to accept or overlook certain mainstream conventions in DXHR, most of which are subpar replacements to their equivalent features in DX, but not that obvious to the effect of pissing off fans. Thief is the stealth game perfected (except mantling, which is masterfully recreated by The Dark Mod), and it's going to be a thin rope to tread on. To make sweeping changes to its gameplay mechanics or remove them (like what TDS, a good game but the worst of the series, did to rope arrows, level design and the sword) will likely be a bad decision.

We'll see.

That better be a fake, fan made thing. Garrett's not a poser.
An interesting trailer, music was kinda bland.
The bow upgrade is a strange choice. Garrett's primary gear has always been ordinary or magical, with technology reserved to secondary equipment like flash bombs. It's also clearly more showy than practical (the condensed form is still very bulky) which has never been Garrett's thing.

I hope they don't overdo it in an attempt to make Garrett more marketable.
They had originally mentioned that Garret was retired. Thief 4 and beyond were supposed to be another character. I've actually began to think the Thief project was dead. Last related news from Eidos' site is from 2009. Thief4.com is still a placeholder splash with only one forum... that is a long time for 0 information to surface.

If Thief 4 does see the light of the day... I'm hoping GOG can work its new release magic on Eidos... I can't play with steamworks, but I'd fork over big time bucks for a DRM release. (plus a kidney).
Cool, but like all new games, I'll wait until the price drops. I rarely ever buy a game at full price anymore.
