Nergal01: After having completed the game recently, my final verdict is: eh, it's mediocre overall. Not terrible, but not particularly inspiring either.
After you've played it... Would you say it is a real "Thief" game? (Assuming you know the previous "Thief" parts)

Some elements certainly are there. The game feels most like a Thief title whenever you're doing odd jobs for clients in the City. Sneak through the streets past guards or outlaws, or hop across roof-tops, using rope arrows to reach windows that are far up and so on. And then you steal whatever you're supposed to get.

Other than that, there are some story elements that are obvious repeats from previous games. A few character names, a few references to the other Thief titles. Beyond that, though, they could have called this game pretty much anything. >_>

If you're on the fence about buying it....well, I got a key for about 20 €. I don't regret buying it at that price, but I'm not exactly enthusiastic about it, either.

They could have called the game Crook for stealing so many mechanics from other games. :P

Thanks for your opinion! Thanks for the offer but no thanks! ;)

I meant to say that I bought the game for about 20 € prior to release. I'm not trying to sell anything.

If this game came out and it was called "The Master Thief," you'd have some serious lawsuit b/c it's a Thief game. It does a lot different, a lot the same and lots of it is better and some of it is worse.

I got the game for free and it has one of the highest enjoyment-per-penny ratios ever. :) Seriously, though, it's definitely a game for me.
It's not Thief or Thief 2 because it's heavily modernized in a lot of ways, but it's not a bad game either. A lot of people have problems accepting sequels that aren't exactly what they expected or wanted.

This is where the developer can't win. If they had made it exactly the same as Thief 1 (or 2) everyone else would have complained and said they should have rebooted it. In this regard, I believe the devs just have to make the game they want. Someone will always be unhappy with what you decide.

For my part, my only real issue is short sightedness... I've found about a dozen issues that I find to be unacceptable game design and the main story is pretty bad. Otherwise, as I've said before, Its tons of fun to play. If they would patch the silly mistakes they made, this would be a very solid game in my book.

stg83: I just meant comparing this NuGarret to Batman is insulting for him. Well if you really look at it then Batman is no more relateable then any other super hero. Especially in the current climate of 99% vs the 1%, Bruce Wayne would be the most reviled man in Gotham. Also ofcourse we all know that billionaires in the real don't give a crap about common people comparatively Iron Man is closer to how billionaires behave, as he is still an egotistical prick most of the time. But, Batman is still my favorite superhero. ;)
Robin is telling his master something after he has played the new Thief.

Haha... this one is my favorite meme template where you can put anything in the bubbles to make it funny. I'd say Garret is more like catwoman in this new game instead of batman. Here's one I made regarding GOG's recent turmoil with regional pricing. :)

Hehe yeah you're right they're funny :)

I haven't played the new Thief and probably never will do :/
But "The Metal Age" waits to played through by me and that makes me glad. :) So for me the second game is gonna be the "new" Thief! :D

I didn't get the 'Booster Gold' reference so I had to research it first, but now: "Aaaah I see..."
You meant the time-traveling right? Well thought :)

StingingVelvet: Just started playing this, got it in the Amazon sale. Am I weird for digging it quite a bit?

Yes it is simplified compared to the originals but whatever, every game is, you have to take things on their own merits. It looks great and the sneaking is pretty well done. Master difficulty seems pretty challenging, they notice you from really far away and it forces you to ghost civilians. Lots of hidden loot to find, lots of replayability.

I dunno, I'm enjoying it. Not nearly as much as Dishonored, but enjoying it.
Im enjoying it as a well.
I noticed that AMD recently released the 14.3 Beta 1.0 drivers. The beta adds Mantle and AMD True Audio for Thief.

Anyone using an AMD GPU with Mantle and True Audio support? I'm curious to hear 1st hand experience from anyone here using the True Audio DSP vs the software mixed audio used by Thief, and/or if you feel like sharing, performance differences using Mantle.

I got it and while the game ran fine the cutscenes were like watching stop motion in slow motion, I enjoyed what I played but couldn't continue the cutscenes were so annoying.
My enjoyment of this game is plummeting, mostly due to poor level design. It's extremely linear in the missions and poorly designed in general. I'm not sure who their level designer was but I hope he was one of the ones laid-off.
