Nirth: I do this too, it's very annoying and another reason why auto-saving is stupid especially if they aren't even separate to quick saves (and normal saves).
avatar
hucklebarry: The good news, in this game, is that there are separate saves... I just didn't use them in tandem.. lesson learned... again.
I've just started adding multiple saves after I sort of got forced to move once and autosaved. I'm not terribly upset about it, but sometimes you're not done with an area and you never met to be done and you really want to steal some more!
"Save separately, save often" is the rule for every game, especially with so many games following a trend of dragging you into the next cutscene/area when you cross an invisible threshold on the map.
The linear level design is something that really concerns me. Even totalbiscuits' generally positive review called it out as being an issue.

nadenitza: Was the guy voicing the old Garrett willing and up for the job? I mean do they even offered him and did he refused? Never understood why he didn't voiced Garrett back...
avatar
Paradoks: I know he was considered for the role and I would be really surprised if he simply refused. I'm not sure whether he did some test recordings or not. The reason why he is not in the game is as far as I know "not fitting EM's vision of Garrett".

Funny thing is that one of the very few things that were said about the game before they've actually shown it (and it was a complete 4 year blackout) was:
"Something that is extremely clear in the forums and in the comments from the fans is to re-use the voice of Garrett, and this is obviously something that we'll consider very seriously."
Your worlds have merit considering how nugarrett looks, acts and most importantly sounds, like a younger emofag, forgive the epithet...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-04-03-thief-dev-explains-why-it-ditched-original-garrett-voice-actor

This article even throws more merit on the subject.

With the new visual of Garrett we'd created, we found that there was a disconnect that we couldn't ignore between the concepted character and Stephen's voice today," Gallagher explained.

"And to answer your question directly, the actor playing Garrett needed to be able to perform his own stunts," Verbert said.

"Garrett's a really athletic guy. We could have pasted Stephen's voice on top of the actions and stunts of someone else, but this wouldn't appear natural. It really wouldn't make any sense to capture the full performance for our other characters, but not for our star."

Not athletic enough and couldn't do stunts, sounding too old of the role... they actually, really went for that "younger look" on purpose...

Fenixp: combat music in Morrowind
Ah, you mean raktime.
The game looks great maxed out, and the extent to which they allow you to customize your playthrough is a very nice touch. Everything else however I find to be a major disappointment. Such wasted potential.

That excuse from the devs is total BS though, it worked perfectly fine for Hitman Abolution where they kept the original voice actor David Bateson. At first IO Interactive also wanted to use one actor for complete performance capture but later wisely decided to bring back David Bateson for voice over work.

hucklebarry, the headshot screen capture you posted from the game looks awesome. May I ask what are the specs of your rig and what graphics settings are you running Thief on and what is the FPS your getting? Thanks. :)

This is the same excuse Ubisoft gave for changing Sam Fisher's voice actor for Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The excuse is that facial motion-capture is done along with the whole body... but then they go and release these games in multiple spoken languages so either way there will be a disconnect between the physical actor and the individual voice actors.

hucklebarry: On master difficulty, I am quick-saving all over the place. No different than any of the previous Thief games. You can also manually save in slots so that you can run multiple games on various difficulties/playstyles. There are also checkpoint/auto-saves.

As mentioned, if you customize the difficulty, you can remove those saving options. But, by default, you can save to your heart's content.
How about the third-person perspective and equipment reset? Thanks.

I think the only time you go into 3rd person is for story mode (in game cut scenes). To my knowledge, its never 3rd person when you are actually controlling the character. Equipment does not reset. In fact, on master difficulty, its extremely sparse. You really will have to visit your fence and buy gear if you want to find all the secrets or complete all bonus objectives. You can find some equipment lying around, but nothing like the quantity from the first 3 games. Your money and gear stays with you throughout the whole game, just like Thief 3. You visit a fence in the city if you want to buy. A cool twist, you can actually sell gear if you like, and you can store overflow gear in your hideout if you like.

Interesting. I like that. Thanks again.

There are multiple climbing sequences for which Garret is put into 3rd person mode so you can see him as you control him climbing around.

You mean only in certain occasions then, perhaps similar to what they did with Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

Yes, just certain climbing sequences. There's at least two of them. Probably not many in total.
