Crewdroog: Uh, I"m a girl. And I'm playing on a PS3 so no mods. I have been considering a Nord, but was thinking mage nord cause they hate magic.
avatar
Pardinuz: That doesn't mean you can't play it like a a man anyway. :p

A Nord woman works too. Just make sure you get an intimidating war paint like Aela The Huntress.

It's a pity you're on PS3 though. Playing Skyrim without mods is like eating cereal without milk.
not at first
first you have to play it vanilla
no mods and then introduce mods to see what has been improved if you dont play it vanilla first you never quite will appreciate everything a mod does and how much it improves the game
As someone mentioned, try unarmed Khajit. It will give you totally different perspective of the game. And try to convince the whole Skyrim that their bad kahjits image is wrong;)

I'm currently playing through Morrowind with Winter, a female imperial custom class (probably counts as some sort of roguish battlemage?) character who specialises in longswords and destruction (and nothing else) for offense, and heavy armour and blocking (and nothing else) for defense. I've never been a very archering player, and with projectile destruction magic, it doesn't seem very useful (pity you can't sneak attack with a fireball :D). I've got speechcraft and sneak as well for when I don't want to fight my way out of things.
I skipped out on Security as I use Alteration instead, which is useful for other things as well. To round it all off, when I feel like crafting stuff, I've got Alchemy to make potions, and Armourer to repair my own armour as well. To sell the stuff, I've got Merchantile.

Those are my Major/Minor skills, with the rest of the stuff I end up building anyhow on my own. I suppose it is more remarkable to make note of the stuff I don't touch at all...as I said, no weapons except longblade, no armour except heavy, no conjuration (necromancers! :D), mysticism (Mark/Recall and soultrap being the only spells I use, with the occasional telekinesis, can be done with enchanting or low levels), restoration (with my alchemy skills, it seems pointless) or illusion (Sneak instead of invisibility, until I can enchant myself a nice constant chameleon item).

Cereal without milk makes an awesome snack (especially if it has raisins and other dried fruit in it)!

Fenixp: Well... Why collect the loot then? At that point, it's really pointless to hold on to anything you won't immediately use.

Personally, I find many such complaints just come from habits we have picked up while playing other RPGs, which however don't quite apply on TES games. They're not centered around getting loot, never have been, and forcing yourself to do so will inevitably make your experience with the games worse.

Crewdroog: wait, you don't hoard everything in your house? I keep everything with enchantments, even if not pertaining to my character, b/c YOU NEVER KNOW. And I hold onto these cause you never know when you might want to dual wield. My bed is also cluttered with flawless gems. And the BOOKS! I need all of those!
avatar
FoxySage: The last character i created in Skyrim was a neutral good young, pacifist orc priestess that wanted to set out and explore the world. Chose an alternate start (mod) to start in an orc clan stronghold.

Main skills was restoration and two-handed weapons (picked two-handed warhammer because that was the closest to a quarterstaff i could find in Skyrim).

You could try that?
avatar
Crewdroog: The idea of being a pacifist is fun and talking your way out of stuff has it's merits... But whenever I try to do stuff like that it turns into this, specifically at 1:50 mark. [NSFW: language]
That^. I'm more on the OCD side than the ADD side. I like to have a chest for weapons, chest for armor, etc... lots of things stacked and lined up all nice and tidy. Books can't be sent to my shelves until a full collection has been made, then they're stocked on the shelves in perfect alphabetical order. I usually spend WAY too much time in games sorting, collecting, and fine tuning my residence.

RPGs sometimes bring out the worst in people.

Yeah, you never know when you need those items in rpgs. It isn't hoarding useless junk, we are just preparing for the future by collecting the necessary items needed for a quest!

Pacifist doesn't mean a no kill run. You can defend yourself from bandits (and dragons) if they attack you. You could also pick up a group of followers and be like the healer in a D&D party. XD

I have chests, drawers, etc for everything. All my potion stuff is in one room. I have clothes in a dresser, armor in a chest all neatly sorted. Jewelry is in it's own place. However, I have strewn my bed with all my gems cause it's purty! Books I haven't really organized though.

That can be fun too. :)

My first character was an evil dark elf vampire mage focused on destruction/conjuration/illusion.

Although she was quite sneaky too since i didn't realize a robed mage was a very tough playthrough (no armour=no AC=easy to get hit). So i had fun sneaking past encounters and sneak attack them by throwing fireballs at their backs!

Hit and run tactics FTW!

I thank everyone sooo much for their input! After much thought, I have decided on my next roll. However, one person didn't create it, rather I think it was a combination of the efforts of Coelocanth (fist punch of death), siulebuo (be snowkatt) and snowkatt (hates khajiits). Since I can only post one "correct" answer, it will be siulebuo; I'll go and upvote some posts from the other guys. Fair is fair.

So yes, I will be snowkatt, a fist fighting Khajiit who will be turned vampire. She will dabble in some destruction magic, but when push comes to shove, she just beats the crap out of everyone. Since snowkatt hates cheese, anytime she comes in contact with it in game (sees it on a table, etc), she will grab it and throw it across the room, or take it and hide it in an abandoned shack. Cheese will be eliminated from Skyrim! From my convos with snowkatt, I know she hates bigots and xenophobes, so i will be fist punching all those guys. Someone makes a remark about me being a stinky Khajiit, BAM, fist to the face. I have a feeling I'm gonna be in jail. A LOT.

Also, since she hates haters, I have to side with the Imperial Army, cause the nords are the worst. She is anti-authority for the most part, so her main home will be with the Companions. I don't know how the vampire thing is gonna work; I've played vampire in Oblivion but not Skyrim, so we'll see how that changes things. She will try to join the mages guild to hone her natural destruction abilities, but the rules and structure will drive her bananas.

Here is a pic of the re-roll. I tried to make her as pretty and non-replusive as possible, snowkatt!

if you have any other quirks you think she should have, let me know :) thanks again for everyone's help!

Coelocanth: Dammit, GOG ate my reply. Anyway, here's what I said the first attempt:

Some time ago I read on a forum (not sure if the Beth forums or what) where a guy was talking about a brawler build. Just used fists. The thread was called "I Punch Giants", I think. Anyway, he used the cat race (can't remember the name right now). Sounded like such a funny idea that I plan on doing it myself once I get around to playing Skyrim again. Can't recall how he specced out the character or what archetype he went with (mage, rogue, warrior).

I tend to play the same type as you, so have no other ideas than this one.

*edit* Here is the thread. Enjoy. :)
I forgot to say, the article was great. I started playing snowkatt and the cut scenes for fisticuffs are awesome. I'm like a WWE wrestler! I'm not kidding. I put someone over my head and body slammed them.

Aaah, Vampirism.... Are you playing with or without all of the various DLC?

I have all the dlc, but with my main I have yet to do the vampire one, so I have no idea what to expect from it.

Awesome! I've been sorely tempted to fire up Skyrim and create one of these myself. Just a heads up that I ended up browsing through the comments in that article and many were saying that in the late game it seems you may be quite underpowered. But that was a few years ago. It may be different with the latest build - and there were some people that were saying you can do fine. I guess it's well worth checking out though because it seems you're good to go in any event up to at least level 40ish.

ah, I see. I didn't read the comments. I'll peruse them. For right now though, I'm waaaay op. claws of death!!

Okay, good. It's just that Dawnguard gives you a whole Vampire-centric campaigh when playing one (and yes, you can join the Vampires quite early on), and adds a lot to being a vampire.

Oh sweet. I'll try to throw myself at some vampires then. ;)

Actually, that IS how you get it in Skyrim, right? That's how it was in Oblivion. Get hemophilia, don't get it cured and sleep a couple of days.
