I've finally found time to enjoy The Witcher (EE), but now I've run into problems.
In Act I, when I'm supposed to help three people for the Reverend (Haren Brogg, Mikul, and Odo), and I'm supposed to show them the Eternal Fire signet ring to make them listen to me.
However, this ring is not, I repeat absolutely not, in my store or inventory. I have the quest, and there are no dialogue options with the reverend that will let me regain it.
To make matters worse, doing these three quests is necessary to advance the story.
Did I just find a gamebreaking bug, or is there something I'm not seeing?

I think you can get the ring from a female beggar in exchange for something, but i'm not 100% sure.
Edit: Yep, it's a female beggar in the Outskirts who wants a white gull potion.

Oh, thanks for a link when he just had a simple question, useful indeed.
Also here . . .=)

The Eternal Fire ring can also be obtained by talking to the Reverand and gaining his approval. If you somehow blow that then the old beggar is your best bet.

Ah. Thank you. I was certain he was supposed to give the ring to me when starting the quest.

How can you gain his approval though? I have one dialogue option which still has alternatives (apparently), the one about "Are you a reverend of the eternal fire", but it just leads to him chastising me and walking away.
At any rate, I think I'll go with the help beggar method. Thanks and +1 to all.

I forget the exact dialogue options but generally avoiding options that make you seem like an outsider or otherwise being offensive to them. This isn't the kind of game where you can exhaust all the dialogue options blindly. Saying the wrong thing could cause them to not want to speak to you again.
gave me [url=http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/the_witcher/perm=36/#p_b_36]this advice about starting out in The Witcher.

As it should be.
Meh, I still can't figure it out.
None of the beggars want to interact with me, except for one who keeps asking for booze then tells me to piss off once he's received it.
The beggar women just keep informing me that their legs are covered with manure.
White Gull. This is a random, one time only conversation so keep trying if you don't get it the first time.
Quoted from here
Edit: Also this may be useful . . . =)

Edit/whoops: During the "Of Monsters and Men" quest, after the first fight with the barghests on the Outskirts of Vizima, talk to Shani, who refers you to the Reverend, at which point he will give you the ring.

Agreed. But so many games let you get away with saying anything in dialogue options it's important to point out when that's not the case.
Jeez, I love that game. The atmosphere, the stuff characters say... THAT's what mature medieval fantasy should look like.
