Its a good game, the story is good and its quite big and challanging, the only thing bad about the game is that most of the npc models are reused everytime but apart for that the price is a steal.

It's a good game. The combat isn't the most amazing thing, and I once got into a fight that took 30 minutes of clicking the mouse in the same pattern (not exaggerating, I checked a clock), but I probably got into that fight before I was supposed to, since I did 0 to 1 damage with every hit, and had serious trouble until I managed to find a clicking rhythm that got the enemy stuck on a tree and unable to attack. Even with a combat system that feels like a rhythm game, I recommend the game. The only other bad thing I can think/remember about it is that sometimes characters have unnatural pauses during dialogue, so the flow didn't feel natural, but that wasn't more than a minor nuisance.

Three-letter answer

It's a decent game. Definitely good value for money, if you're asking that. I wouldn't call it a great game, not by a long shot, but there are some things it does remarkably well (the storyline branches out quite a lot based on your decisions, and rather cleverly, too).

On the other hand, the combat is very poor, the universe is boring and rather haphazardly constructed and the storyline is... I don't even remember what the story was about anymore. So, yeah. But again, it's most definitely worth $5. And most people seem to have liked it much more than I did.

The visuals of the environments, the world, are gorgeous, you can run around for hours, but once you get into a combat, you WILL cringe.

It has a really ugly, static, arcade-y style of swordplay, it just ruins it.

If you are an RPG fan you shouldn't miss this game. Buy it and play it. It worth every penny from those 5$ spent.

The atmosphere and the story are it's strong points. Combat is ok after you get used with it. Don't allow yourself to be put off by the combat at the start of the game, it is getting better afterwards when your character evolves in skill.

It looks great, sounds great and has a really interesting story (with choices that often change things in unexpected ways). It does however have what is best described as "rhythmic" combat, which puts some people off.

The game is good and well worth the price, but if you put it that way... maybe you should take care of your backlog.

I was kind of in the same situation, went as far as the end of chapter 2 and then stopped as it was starting to get a little boring. I had no doubt it would get better later, but then I started playing the Mass Effect series wich I simply enjoyed a lot more.
When I tried to get back to it I was distracted by X-Com. Then MoO2 went in the way, then Civ2 and after that... well, you get the picture.

So unless you really want to play it I'd say you can safely pass this time. It's not like it won't be on sale ever again anyway. It's been 5$ at least two, maybe three times already this year.

Last thing, it's worth mentioning that there's a demo available, give it a try before deciding.
