Hi, just joined GOG because of the recent free Fallout series offer. I see that they offer the Witcher and was wondering if it is worth playing? I played the Witcher 2 on the xbox 360 and liked the world it set out. Is the first game worth playing or should I just skip it and buy the Witcher 2 instead?

Thanks for your opinions.
Buy both, they're dirt cheap. W2 has better combat and English localisation, the first one is a timeless classic.
Welcome to GOG. I joined a year ago today to snag a freebee and I haven't left since, literally.

You bastard! I wanted to give him a Witcher key!
I own The Witcher 1, so The Witcher 2 is supposed to be better or just different?

Initially I thought how can The Witcher be a timeless classic it only came out a couple of yrs ago. After researching I discover it has been 6 frikkin yrs! At this rate I'll be dead before I finish the damn thing.

Anything post-2000 is still a "new game" to me.

They're both good games. Witcher 2 is an overall more polished experience ( and a lot prettier, if your system can handle it ). Arguably the strongest aspect of the series is the storytelling, though, and the way the player decisions affect the story, and you get that in both games.

Oh, and the series also has quite possibly the most convincing medieval Fantasy setting you'll ever experience in a video game. Most other games don't even come close.
I would also just like to say the sound tracks are some of the best out of all video game soundtracks on the planet, so take advantage of owning them people.
I'm playing through it right now. It was one of my backlog games from way back. I've been enjoying it a lot, but it has some glitches/combat issues. So far I've been able to get past them though. Still a great game. Just remember that the combat/graphics in the sequel are improved. If you want the full Witcher experience and story you're going to get them all. :)

Yeah, all of our plans failed and he's still here. Whatever you do, don't feed him after midnight. o_o

Yeah I think many of us here feel that.
Get both, they are both worth every single cent!

I have bought several copies of the first Witcher and got some friends to buy it, too. This game is a must have.

I'm sure someone here can hook you up with a free copy though since some time ago The Witcher was given away as free bonus with every sale and you received a gift code if you already had it in your account.

@scampywiak: I disagree with you on the topic of combat. I think the fighting system of the first Witcher is far superior to the Witcher 2.
