I'm pretty excited for The Witcher 3 and planning to get it via GOG when it is released. I worked far away from my hometown and only return home on Wednesdays and weekends. Usually I leave the game downloader download the games during my time away and hopefully they would be completed by the time I returned.

Unfortunately the internet connection in my place is pretty slow and iffy to say the least. It kept getting cut off every several hours and this made the GOG downloader to pause its downloads. It's pretty annoying to return home only to see the download is paused. Even more annoying when it's paused just mere minutes after I leave it to do it's work thus wasting all those hours and electricity for nothing.

Does GOG has auto resume? I know it resumes downloads when we start it but what about after the internet is cut off and the download is paused? It would be nice if it can auto resume after the connection is re-established.

It does auto resume. If it feels like it. But most days it does.

However it won't download the witcher 3, no matter how much I shout at the screen.

I think there's a little time for The Witcher 3 to be released.
There's a solution, although not a conventional one: you could do a script that closes the downloder periodically and opens it again. If not good, it's a solution, easily implemented.

That's the problem, it's quite obstinate when met with anger and aggression. You have to handle it softly; whisper loving words to the microphone, massage the mouse, caress the keyboard, soon you'll see The Witcher 3 download being finished in no time.

It's a solution alright, thanks. Would've preferred it if the downloader itself actually does that. Now, I got to learn a little bit of scripting or play around with Windows' Scheduler to emulate that solution.

The GOG Downloader will automatically pause the download if there are over 10 failed attempts to download a chunk (part of a file). It's to prevent bandwidth usage if something is wrong on the server.

I tried that, even bribed my PC with a spit and polish but still no Witcher 3!

So, playing around with Window's Task Scheduler it is then. Set Windows to restart every 24 hours (Ok...that reminded me of X Box One for some reason, lol) and set GOG Downloader to Start with Windows. Or every 12 hours...or 6...ah, the bane of using a slow and unreliable internet connection while spending days away from the PC.

It'll take me days but at least there's a way. Most of my previous games using the downloader are old games so I don't mind waiting days for them but the Witcher 3 is a brand new game.

Pff you won't need the Downloader to grab all 6TB of The Witcher 3.
