Wishbone: So... Wednesday was yesterday. Any news?
Well, I asked on Wednesday. Got answers today and one of them was not to my liking, so I will go and see if I can convince the devs at CDP to see things my way. No idea if they will (they have better things to do than keep the head of PR & marketing at a company that's not even theirs happy), but I'll give it the old college try.

Providing you guys with a substantive answer is near the top of my to-do list.

Glad to hear you're working on it. Sad to hear about the answer you didn't like. Look forward to actually seeing the answers, whatever they may be.

One small request though: whatever the answers turn out to be, please try not to sugarcoat them, even though I realize that, as a PR person, this may come naturally to you ;-) Just give us the straight dope.
I wish I Pre-Ordered from GOG and not Steam, but I just heard about GOG yesterday :( Well at least I know about them now :)

"Tell it to me straight, doc"?

That would be greatly appreciated. GOG is in no danger of losing my business, which really limits the realistic things I can say to push for my preferred result.

Any effort is definitely going to be appreciated.

You should be able to cancel any pre-order from steam, as long as the game is not out yet.

Would be nice to know what they actually said right now, both good and bad.
But, I am sure you wont be able to say anything useful to us until after the game ships anyway, so ......

I'm thinking he'd better tell us what he learned before that happens or else it'd be pointless.
It certainly worries me when even a PR guy gets an answer he doesn't want to share with anyone.

Also, I am curious about something with the patching. If the Witcher 2 is DRM free and we patch the game, shouldn't we still be able to back it up? I ask because I am seriously concerned about patching actually adding DRM into the game to prevent it from being copied. Of course this is speculation but my concerns are warranted due to lack of information and how much they want the patching system to keep the game from being illegally updated.
I just learned about the potential DRM scheme for TW2, so I guess I'm a bit behind on things. I have two strict principles when it comes to purchasing games nowadays:
1. If it has any sort of DRM whatsoever, I will not purchase it, nor will I pirate it, nor will I bother wasting my time to play it. (Unless said DRM is removed in a future release.)
2. If the game is a console port, I won't touch it. I'm a PC gamer.

Yes, this does severely limit the number of games available to me, but I don't exactly have as much time to play games lately, so I may as well play the games I support. GOG provides an ample source of games for me (I currently have about 40 games I've purchased that I still need to play, so my backlog is nice and padded) and there are tons of independent games out there that meet my requirements. That being the case, I preordered the game on GOG the instant I heard it was going to be available DRM free, because I like to support companies that support me. Heck, I'm even repurchasing TW on GOG, despite already owning it.

However, if it does turn out that this sort of DRM is implemented in TW2:GOG edition, I will not be buying it. Certainly it's less of a hassle than most DRM out there, but I refused to use Impulse for the same reason, so why should I change my tune?

GOG, I love you guys and I always have. Next to HDTracks, you are my greatest source of digital entertainment. But if TW2 does have DRM in the end, I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass (at least until maybe a future release removes the DRM).

Everybody else . . . sorry for my long rant. It's been one of those days. :)
Perhaps we are loosing the sight of what's important here.
We are getting a special game very soon, a game that you won't find anywhere else in the sea of feces they offer us as RPG games today.
And devs are doing their best (at least I hope so) to please the fans.
So being counter productive and doing and saying things in spite, like a little child, maybe isn't the best thing to do?

I'm just trying to be positive here. Having those answers soon would help. The longer the wait, more speculations from the angry mob lulz
I agree, sword. People should relax their anti-DRM stgance just this once IMO and meet Gog halfway. Gog is already providing so much to us......an easy download system, extras, nearly(most agree) DRM free, no install limits, etc....plus an awesome storyline and protagonist.

Think about it, Gog's updater for TW2 might have DRM on it, but the rest of the game is DRM free, and if we suport it this time then if TW3 comes out or whatever, it might be solely distributed/published by CDPR/Gog(No other publishers and no more restrictions/etc). And it might also lead to lessening of DRM on other new games as time goes on.

Or... they could look at it and say "Hey, here you have a hotbed of anti-DRM gamers and yet they accepted some form of DRM on the last game. So it's obvious they're willing to overlook their feelings on DRM to get the latest shiny, so we can slip in a little bit more DRM on the next release".

See what I did there? ;)

You could also have publishers thinking/saying "Look, CDPR released a nearly/fully DRM free game and it was still a failure as hardly no one bought it.....we guess DRM is still the way to go then." by that logic.

Also, I (again) see it more as the anti-drm people being reasonable and meeting Gog part way but saying "We'll try this for now but we want fully DRM free gaming in future but will also support you this time to show we appreciate the amount of freedom from normal DRM methods you have given us and to support fully DRM free games in the future."

See what i'm getting at here?

I think it means that he's really on top of the job and knows the community. It's reassuring even if ultimately we don't get the answer we want that at least on the GOG side of things they know who we are.

I have to admit that it's kind of refreshing to see a PR guy being candid on something that could potentially make GOG look bad.

I do. All I'm pointing out is speculating about how publishers are going to view the results of this is pointless. They could look at it as "Hey, almost DRM free actually works" or they could look at it as "Hey, even when they bitch and whine about DRM, they'll still buy the game anyway".
