I have pre-ordered TW2 GoG version. I'm interested to know the below:

1. Soundtrack. It was stated as MP3 format. I like to know whether how quality is this format? How high is the bitrate and are there plans for a lossless format?

2. I understand GoG version has no DRM. However, is there a downloadable patch/update for GoG version or my GoG version has to connect to internet to update?

Thank you
Welcome.

I dont know about the soundtrack but i expect cdpr will have a seperate patch for the gog version
If it follows traditional GOG patch scheme, you will have to re-download everything every time it gets an update.
I think that retail patches are quite simply gonna be appliable on GoG version

I wonder if that's still going to be an issue. With the new downloader they ought to be able to only have you download portions of the revised file. I mean it should be reasonable given that the files are segmented for download with individual checksums.

If not, why not!

1: I don't know about the soundtrack, but...
2: ...From what I remember of the press event a week ago, there will be an automatic updater with all versions of The Witcher 2. From the sound of it, you will also get a key with the GOG version which you can use to register your game. Registering is completely optional, so it is not really DRM, but it unlocks various benefits. Think of it as a reward for legitimate costumers.

Edit:
Oh, also, Welcome to GOG!

As stated on http://www.gog.com/en/page/tw2v3, TW2 soundtrack in the Digital Premium Edition will be encoded in MP3 format. I cannot comment on the quality as I haven't heard the soundtrack myself but I'm sure CDPRED will deliver a high bitrate and we won't compress the original files furthermore, that's for sure

TW2 has a built in launcher that will handles updating automatically. I'm not sure if the updates will be also separately downloadable from GOG.com page, it depends on CDPRED really - I can't really check it now as I'm writing from home :)

It would be nice if the soundtrack could be made available in FLAC (lossless format) too: considering the size of the game the impact on the overall download would be minimal and it would make us taking the digital delivery route get the same audio quality as those buying at retail.

As for the automatic updates, that was a concept that raised a red flag for me too when mentioned during the Spring Conference presentation: should that turn out to be the only way to get patches, the DRM-free claim of the gog.com release, while technically correct, would become in my eyes a bit questionable.

Lossless please. We're not in the dark ages anymore where we need to worry about disk space. :(

Quality of MP3 on studio monitors is terrible. :(

Destro: snip
Any info on DLC? Is there any chance GOG version could get Collector's edition / preorder DLC?

Dear GoG overlords,
Having a proper FLAC version of the soundtrack would be greatly appreciated. By proper I mean that the files weren't just converted into FLAC from the mp3 ones (which would be pointless and kinda evil. I hope I didn't give you any ominous ideas).
If a FLAC version appears on GoG one day, I expect I'll don a grin and sing.

I was thinking mp3 @ 320kbps with flac available by special request like SoulEye does with their pppppp soundtrack for vvvvvv. Or just have both options available at download time.

Kabuto: ... mp3 @ 320kbps with flac available by special request ...
I'd special request it so hard that they'd be surprised* even if they read this and were expecting a special request hardened in the bluesiest flames of soul.
(*barring a saving throw)

I just had a flashback. I once heard someone call, in all seriousness, mp3 @ 320kbps lossless. I've.. I've never been the same since..

In a more serious note, while mp3 at higher bitrates is nice and all, I would like to get the same quality audio as the guys with the physical soundtrack cd.

If you see that person again, you can regain your old form by smacking him/her upside the head.

FLAC should be offered by all dd services as far as I'm concerned. Especially in this case. Witcher 2 will be what a 15GB download? What's another half gig?

Is the difference between FLAC and 320kbps mp3 perceivable? I rip all of my music myself because I'm not satisfied with the usual 128kbps or 256kbps offered commercially, so I understand the desire for audio quality, but I'm somewhat skeptical about the superiority of FLAC.
