Hi all,

I just got The Witcher 2 on GoG and was wondering if it is possible to add that game to my Steam library? So I can earn achievements, Steam trading cards etc.

Thanks

Nope, not possible. AFAIK you can redeem the Steam version on GOG but not the other way around. GOG is going to launch its own client with similar capabilities as Steam's (including achievements) soon, I would be surprised if The Witcher 2 didn't get GOG achievements sooner or later.

you can launch it from the steam client if thats what you mean - by adding the exe file under games/add a non-steam game to my library through the client interface.

if you ant a steam key. buy from steam or a steam reseller.

Edit: not sure why you'd want the steam version though TBH.

He said it pretty clearly. Achievements and trading cards. And I get that. Of course I don't need achievements to enjoy a game but if they are available in one version but not in another, the latter feels a bit incomplete to me.

well, at least thats one set not getting devalued by a freebie - and not getting another angle of profiteering from scummers.
though I've no doubt by now there will be a load of witcher 2 keys for sale by scumbags and bottom feeders out there, hell, the trading thread is full of them right now. O____o~

I feel the same way. I usually don't bother with achievements, but I am obsessed with having a "complete" version of a game, even if it is something little that has no value and doesn't affect gameplay at all.
PC gamers who want to purchase PC versions of video games on Steam because they have Steam Trading Cards pisses me off and sets the PC into a way to earn more and more money off of every single virtual item that you can possibly try to sell, which therfore I call a exploit and should be illegal.

Gabe Newell 5 years ago said he did not believe in DLC's and microtransactions yet VALVe introduces Steam Trading Cards, a marketplace on Steam, and releases 2 Free to Play (F2P) video games Team Fortress 2 in 2010 and Dota 2 in 2012.

I will get a lot of hate for typing this comment, but I don't care. I voice my opinion here on the gog.com forums.

I hope gog.com never introduces a marketpalce.

Deal with it.

I wouldn't say that they don't affect gameplay at all. They sometimes make me do fun stuff I wouldn't do otherwise and sometimes they give me that little push I need to revisit a great game. For instance I really enjoyed replaying Half-Life 2 and the Episodes while hunting for achievements, they made me do and discover stuff I wasn't even aware of before, despite loving that game.

And whoever claims that achievement are utter crap which have nothing to do with genuine gamedesign: what about all other games that had rating systems, medals etc. ages before achievements were introduced? :P

Does this mean that The Witcher 3 will require this client? I rather like DRM free games and not have to deal with the hassle of the client. I preordered Witcher 3, and if it is like Steam, I would cancel it.

It won't require the client to play, though the achievement system might, as well as online play/friends list etc of course.

So, how do you feel about the devs A) participating in this model (with Steamcards) and B) Profiting from this model?
