Just a quick question that i'm hoping someone here will be able to answer.

I recently started playing EVE Online with a trial account and seeing it on sale for so cheap is making me think about picking it up. However, the line "Product keys will not work with existing EVE Online accounts." Seems to imply that I might have to create a whole new account, does anyone know if that is the case?

Also, would I have to redownload the whole client?

First of all no, you won't have to redownload the client.

As far as the second part goes, I know it used to refer to trial accounts started from non-Steam versions of the game.

When I bought it some time ago, after you bought the game you were re-directed to the Eve Online site & could use the account details you have used in the free-trial to switch that account from trial to full game

Edit: Also, this is what the EVE Support says about it:

"Steam is a gaming network that offers an alternative way to purchase new EVE Online accounts. At the Steam website, you can get an EVE Online account along with 21 days of free trial.

What you need to do to activate your EVE account through Steam is to open your Steam client, right click on EVE under "My Games" and select "properties". You will see a option there to visit the EVE Online Account website. Select the option and you will be directed to a section of our website to start your sign up process.

Steam only offers the initial purchase of EVE accounts at the moment, not the subscription payments which follow if you want to keep on playing after the initial 30 day subscription period."

Thanks for the help, going to do a little searching around for some more clarification before I buy.

Gah, I just read just erased all enthusiasm of buying EVE, the payment prices. Outside of europe it's a $14.95 subscription fee that comes to a reasonable £9.50-ish which is similar to what I was paying for WoW Monthly. In Europe you get the bullshit 1$ = 1€ meaning i'll be paying £12.60 a month.

So unless the UK doesn't count as Europe and I can pay in dollars instead, i'll pass and i'll grab the Indie Story Pack instead.
