Heya,

Does anyone here have any experience about the sims 3 - game? My wife have been complaining about some graphics oddities her game has, so I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions how to remedy those :)

The glitches are not anything gamebreaking, but annoying nonetheless. For example, when the sims fight, the white bubble thingie is missing. Spoiled food/bad hygiene does not show the green "smell" indicator, the burglar alarms does not sound any alarms (they do work, but the visual ques do not show). Fireplace has no fire in it, and sometimes the talk bubbles don't have any pictures in them.

We use the same computer, so the specs are more than enough for the game (Graphics card is GeForce 9800GT with 1gig of memory, should suffice).

Like I said, it's nothing gamebreaking, but seems to annoy her quite a bit. And when the missus is annoyed... :(

Recent expansions have broken the Sims 3 quite badly. Do you have those?

There is a town that eventually stops the game because things like cars don't *ever* despawn (but more are spawned), the graphical issues you've mentioned and even one where the whole game semi-freezes (time stops, sims stop but the animations like the plumbob and Zzzzz continue).

EDIT: Did a bit more research on this and found it (empty speech bubbles) can be caused by the NoMosiac mod and a "Create-a-pattern" program. Has your wife installed/used either of these?

She does have some custom clothes installed, so I guess that's the "create-a-pattern" thingie? After looking at the files in the game's mod folder, I found that there is a file that removes the blur, so my wife has a nude patch installed. I feel so proud right now, my influence seems to pay off :)

Anyhow, she has the world adventures expansion installed, and the game is patched (says the launcher)

Should I just remove all the mod files from the game?
Generally speaking, when having an issue with the Sims with custom content installed, the first step is to back up the files you need, completely remove it (not just uninstall, remove anything related to it) and reinstall without adding anything else other than official patches/expansions/stuff packs.

This is obviously to check that it isn't something introduced by CC. Then you add it back in bit-by-bit until it breaks.

It might be easier to just move anything custom out though :) But this doesn't rule it out as a problem (you can easily miss some).
Wow, it actually worked :)

After removing the custom content files the game seems to work fine. So thank you xyem :)

That's great to hear. I hope you can replace the custom content with an updated version or something so your wife isn't losing out.

Also, woo. I think this is the first time my response to a question thread has been marked as a solution :D
