GIVEAWAY CLOSED. ;)
-------------------------------

Courtesy of our kind fellow OldFatGuy, a lucky winner will get Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic here on GOG. ;)

Thinking of a question which could be related to this title, I realized I usually like shadowy[*] protagonists in games. I know it's kind of a trope, but I love haunted, in-search-of-vengeance characters like Max Payne in the first installment of the series.

[*] shadowy as in "dark, shaded, dim, gloomy, shady, obscure, murky, dusky, funereal, crepuscular, tenebrous, tenebrious"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, to enter the giveaway, please tell us who's your preferred shadowy character from a video game, movie, book, etc. and why do you like him/her/it. ;)

(It doesn't need to be the main character, though)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------

RULES:
1. You must have joined before October 2012 OR have 50+ rep points (I might make exceptions, if asked in the thread and I see fit). Also, a person fulfilling this requirement may enter on behalf of one who doesn't (though if I know for sure that the "impaired" one is a fishy member, (s)he will be silently disqualified anyways).
2. To enter, clearly state you're in and remember to answer the question above!
3. Re-gifting and entering for others (as long as they enter in this GA themselves and you specify their names) are allowed. No combo-chains, please. ;)
4. The draw (random.org) will be next week.

I'd like to dedicate the giveaway, as usual, to all those of you who make this community a friendly and warm place to stay. Heartfelt thanks to all of you! :)

+1 and thanks for the giveaway! In for lugum.

As per your request, my favorite shadowy character from video games so far is Garret the Master Thief. Hey, he hides in the shadows to conceal himself, so he can be a shadowy character. :-)

Kudos to OldFatGuy too for his kind donation.

Would Guts, from the manga Berserk, work? He did have a game that I played on a pirated PS2, where you basically could basically one shot (one swing, as it was with a sword?) pretty much any enemy. It was awesome. More importantly though, I think his is the most epic roaring rampage of revenge you'll find.

I found a bit of footage of that game. Damn, now I want to play it again. And I know I probably never will.

Thank you both for running this shadowy giveaway! I will not be in. However, I thought I'd post this shadowy character. You may recognize him :p

A highly illogical pick (and pic :D), if I may say so. :P

I'm in and I have to say that I always liked the Punisher for that shadowy vengeance quality. Max Payne in the first ig good though, though in later episodes he is more of an addict than a shadowy vengeance seeking badass.

iphgix: Max Payne in the first ig good though, though in later episodes he is more of an addict than a shadowy vengeance seeking badass.
In fact, for the first installment the developers used one of their own staff as their model for the looks of Max Payne (due to lack of money), curiously enough he looks like way better (badass, as you says) than the second rendition of the character using a professional actor, who looks bland and generic to me. I haven't played the third installment, so I can't judge it. ;)
I'm in. And I should say the Nameless one of Planescape Torment. Why? I'll answer with a question: "What can change the nature of man?". :)

Best game ever. Thank you, +1.

I think I can't join because of mi register date, but no problem then. ;)
Not in, but I think the evil guy from Stick it to the Man. Just because...'its ONLY a shadow, you don't see him in the game.
I've been playing a ton of fighting games and RPGs as of late since school let out and one character I think fits the bill is Kazama Jin (or 風間仁). Dark, brooding, at least a little angst filled and has a devil form. He's my preferred at the moment mostly because he starts out close to being good and ends up being an anti-villain, sort of. Maybe not that good. Eh, I'm in, I'll probably gift it in the end, but that's cool.

Here's a picture of him:

Told you what: if a member fulfilling the joining date or rep requirements enters on your behalf, you're in.

Gonna update the rules accordingly. ;)
I would like to be in -- I enjoy that kind of game, and I love the graphics!

My favorite "bad guy" in a movie is hands-down, no question about it...

Alan Rickman...

Well, in ANYTHING, really, but specifically in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Oh my gosh, he is hilarious, and so incredibly charismatic that he completely MADE that movie! I loved every single one of his scenes... and it wasn't just me! Rumor is that they cut multiple scenes because test crowds liked him more than Robin Hood (Kevin Costner)!

*SPOILER*

One such scene is where the sheriff finds out that the witch is actually his mother!
Not in but thanks for your generosity and I have to go with any of the Assassin's Creed protagonists, especially Altaïr. Also, I stole your giveaway rules for my own, I hope you don't mind. :)
Dream/Morpheus/Lord Shaper/Oneiros/your pick of a dozen other names. He's the incarnation of dreams and flights of fancy and aspiration. He's inspired countless throughout the ages and laid out some damned sadistic retribution when deemed necessary. Also, the sibling he is closest to is Death, who along with Destiny, are the next two contenders for most awesome of the Endless. If that's not enough, he is so shadowy his speech bubbles are black. :p

Thanks for another interesting giveaway Thespian. In for darktheory, if I may.

I was about to say Not In until I reread the thread. Now I say In for darktheory.

The Nameless One is a good choice. Once he discovers his past(s) you can't but call him shadowy.

One of my favourites would be Richard B. Riddick, especially in Pitch Black and the original game (Escape from Butcher Bay).

And PS: +1 for the cool GA.

PPS: Just saw, I was ninja'd by jdsiege.

So count me Not In for the time being.
