Bio2hazard: some countries ( *coff* germany *coff* ) censor any game with just a bit of blood in it
germany doesnt censor games, germany doesnt even demand censoring games, the publishers do it to get a better age rating to sell there games to younger (meaning more) customers

but yeah, great thread :)

So why don't they do that everywhere?

to sell more games, i am not sure, but maybe the age ratings in the US for example are only guidelines, and do not forbid kids to buy games that are rated for adults? i dont know exactly sorry

Yeah, but in Nova Scotia (maybe other parts of Canada too) at the very least stores (or their employees) get fined if they don't follow the ESRB rating and sell higher rated games to children, and they don't censor games to get a lower rating here so....

I take it you're asking because it's not available on Steam in Germany? Green Man Gaming has it for US$42.45, presumably including Germany, and their version activates on Steam, so you'd get the same end result for a lower price (even including the DLC).

I couldn't say whether it would be unlocked for you right away since your region has no release date but getting it gifted through Steam wouldn't change that either (gifted games unlock based on the local release date rather than inheriting the release date of the giver).

EDIT: despite not being available for purchase in Germany the Steam store page says it includes German language support. O_o

No luck there either, as soon as I try to access the page of the game it gives me an 404 error.
