Hey.
Who's in the US and watching it already? Opinions on this TV series?
NO SPOILERS, PLEASE.

When you say "follow up" does it have any of the same actors/directors/producers?
Haven't heard of it over here (UK), and we got Band of Brothers... mind you we rarely acknowledge the Pacific front in WW2, despite our former interests in the region.
I was planning on checking it out on Sunday (when it started), but I forgot and remember like 45 minutes into it, so I decided not to. Haven't seen a replay yet.

I think it's got some producers, as in Spielberg, Hanks, etc...

It's not a real sequence, but made by some same people and in the same format of BoB. It's described on the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pacific_(miniseries)
If you want to be sure, check the official site.
Cool, thanks for the tip. I was planning to re-watch my Band of Brothers boxset some time this year, and now I have this to look forward to as well.

IMDb says "from the creators of Band of Brothers" whatever that means.

Don't forget The Bridge on the River Kwai, a British movie set in the Far East and one of the most famous WWII movies of all time. To be fair though, that's the only example I can think of off the top of my head.

I'm keen to watch The Pacific. Band of Brothers was epic, so it'd be nice to see how the handle the Pacific Front.
I am interested in watching this, but I don't get HBO. So I'll probably just wait till the DVD set comes out and rent it (or buy it).
One thing I am concerned about is that the tone is apparently very different. (Keep in mind that I am getting this info from a miliblog, so it isn't the most unbiased source ever :p). Allegedly portrays the marines as bloodthirsty savages at times, and tries to make the viewer sympathize with a Japanese guy whose buddy just suicide-grenade'd a corpsman.

Uhuh.. Aaaand?
When it comes down to it, both sides are fighting for what they believe in, and a percentage of them are fighting because they have no other choice.

I'm best friends with the great, great descendent of the guy who threw himself on the explosive trigger at the end of the movie... It's my only lame claim to fame :(
And by that guy, I mean the actual person that the film portrays and not the actor because that sequence is fictional ¬_¬
