As fun as it is, I'm not going to waste time shitting on games. I've had my share of disappointments, but so many people love them, why should I complain? (Out loud at least?) I didn't like it. I don't need to try and convince others not to like it.

Defending things that I like is a bit different, I think. I guess to me, it is just something done out of love, vs. something done out of hate.

So... I'll say one that I like. Plenty of people love it, but it generally seems to get mostly hate here on GOG - Fallout: New Vegas. I love that game.

I give it credit too, it was a fun shooter and the distractions, as distractions, were well done and something of a novelty, no argument there.

Yep, nothing they come up with will ever meet fan's expectations and speculations. And unless the game is a 3 hours movie i'm not seeing how it's possible to provide satisfactory answers to all the loose threads.

I just stop you here, while I agree with you on on the "weird" shooting and story aspects of that game (I am really not a FPS lover/specialiostr though ... I like fpsses but that's it). On the other hand, that game ran (and still runs obviously) on very low-end hardware, with the physics and all which was pretty damn impressive "back in the days". Technological masterpiece IMHO.

-Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
-Half Life 1 (and 2, I liked them but the praise they get is really getting fucking old)

-Hard Reset
-Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
-Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
-Sleeping Dogs
-Devil May Cry 4

I honnestly never saw anyone say "really bad things" about NV here or elsewhere. If there was, I really think it is not the majority's opinion.

I think you're talking about what people refer to as "Myst clones" or "slideshow games", and if so I'd agree. These games got a bad rep, just like all FMV games, because they seemed like a shallow trend. They probably were to a degree, but there are some great first person adventure games out there.

Someone recently bumped a thread requesting Shivers and its sequel. Those games were really enjoyable. Great variety of puzzles, cool atmosphere and design, etc.

The Last of Us is massively overrated.

I remember a couple of years ago people complaining that Activision randomly let a good game bomb by giving it hardly any marketing at all, I believe it was Singularity

(heh - Mobygames says its inspired by Bioshock but its set on a spaceship - whoever wrote that has obviously never heard of System Shock 2!)

Haven't played that one yet but speaking of Naughty Dog... Uncharted is one of the most disappointing games I have ever played. I had heard exclusively good things about it before I gave it a try - and I just don't get it. The platforming is mediocre, the "adventure" elements are moronic, the shooting is perfectly unsatisfactory (and is unjustifiably the most prominent aspect of the gameplay). And don't get me started on the plot... the game is supposed to be lighthearted and fun, I get it, but heck, the plot is just stupid and I have rarely seen a game where the plot had so little to do with the action on the screen. If The Last of Us is anything like Uncharted - no, thank you.

Freedom Fighters (IMHO in fact one of the most underrated games ever)

Overrated - pretty much every game people think "every one knows about" and decide it's good trolling material.
Underrated - every game people think that only them and a handful of chosen few played, unless they find out that, after all, it's a pretty known title, in which case it becomes overrated.

Seriously, it's a matter of opinion. These threads seem more like troll bait than anything else. Just give it some time and people will even say Psychonauts and Planescape are overrated, even when those games sold what little they sold, just because GOGgers enjoy and praise them.

You're right. Now that I think about it, most of the hate I remember seeing was for Fallout 3, not NV.
People are generally much warmer about NV.

Still, I liked Fallout 3, too. I definitely understand why people don't like it, though.

Already? It was overrated on its first week with all the people shouting from the rooftops that it was GOTY, even though it was march.

And cutscenes should damn well be criticized especially when they are as bad as this, with one every five god damn minutes.

People can say that it got better afterwards, but I played it for one hour, using the word playing very loosely, as I had very little imput during that time, with that much time I gave it more than enough chance.

Borderlands has been my go-to overrated game lately, though it's probably just not made for me.

When asked for underrated games I usually say Alpha Protocol first, very fun spy RPG. Some random shooters I think are very solid but underrated because they're not innovative, such as Wolfenstein 2009, Singularity, Timeshift, and that time travel one... fuck, what was the name of it? Oh well.
