Cool. I didn't the mechanics much in the "remake", but I'd love to get the originals again. Too bad they don't show any pictures of them or make it more noticeable that the original trilogy comes with it.

This is Steam we are talking about. The originals are hardly a selling point there ;-).

True. I was just thinking it's too bad they're not selling the originals by themselves. I gave the remake another go last week and while I like the humor, I just can't get into it. The view is horrendous and makes moving about a real chore. I don't even know why they utilized a zoom function 'cause there's barely any difference.

Ric1987: Steam doesn't work on my laptop well, how long is the sale? $2.49 isn't bad so I'll probably bite. Hopefully they will work, I have problems with older games on Steam.
The offer lasts one week starting October 15th.

Thanks, I don't have to decide today then.

trebor8273: has anyone who's played chopperlifter HD tell me if its any good? it reminds me of desert strike from the pictures

SimonG: It is NOT like Desert Strike. However, it is still a very good, hard and fun game. I really, really enjoyed it. A throwback to the old arcadish action games of the late '80s. Great jokes and solid gameplay. A steal for that price.
I got the PS3 version of Choplifter free with PS+, I assume the PC version is pretty much exactly the same. Agreed that it's nothing like the Strike series other than being in a helicopter and having arcadish mechanics, though the new HD Choplifter at least does have missions unlike the original. Overall I found it fun, and I wasn't a huge fan of the original Broderbund game, the pace is much faster and there's lots more to do than what was there in 1982. It's flawed, the humor is hit or miss, there's an annoyingly stupid reporter you have to keep rescuing but I'd rather be shooting at him to shut him up, and things respawn at just the wrong times too much, but overall it was still an entertaining diversion. My favorite Choplifter will always be the 1985 Sega arcade game though, that just rocked.

While I feel some excitement that Bard's Tale is coming back, it also reminds me of hours of mapping every square inch manually and far too many random encounters to even think of putting myself through that again. Bard's Tale 3 may be a bit more replayable, with the new classes and that one bard song that let you flee from everything (to the tune of the Holy Grail's song that the minstrel sang... "Brave Sir Robin ran away - when danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled...")
