kmonster: The real decline happened when the manga was ported into anime. Extremely funny writing for adults was turned into flat action entertainment for little kids and even stretched without substance.
Force yourself to watch the first anime episode of Dragonball Z without distraction and you'll know real pain, especially if you've read the manga before.

keeveek: Isn't the first Dragon Ball Z episode about Radditz? It's exactly the same as in manga. Even no fillers as far as I remember.

And no. Both manga and anime are amazing.
Dragon Ball was ok for its time but you gotta admit several of the filler episodes in DBZ were boring as hell. In the manga at least all the action happened fast and the planet Namek didn't took a month to finally explode.

Agree, but on the other hand, manga is less dramatic in many cases. For example, first Goku SSJ transformation in anime takes 2-3 minutes OF EPICNESS.

In manga it's just 4 pictures.

Also, Masako Nozawa voiceacting is just AMAZING. (japanese dubbing of course, english, french, all of them suck balls)

pure examples of how anime was epic in crucial moments.

Yes, the japanese voices are better than most of the dubs, especially the US bud that brought us the IT'S OVER 9000 MEME. I always thought it's odd that Goku's voice is played by a woman in the original Japanese but I guess it fits him somehow.
Yeah, it's weird to think about it (Goten and Gohan voices are done by the same woman), but it's just epic. Her screams are the best ;D

I agree that filler episodes are mostly terrible, but it's not the problem to skip them, if you have everything on DVD's.

I think I'm gonna rewatch the whole thing once again on DVD. In Polish TV anime was censored from many nudity / violence scenes.

And have you seen The Legendary Super Sayian movie? (it's the eight movie, about Brolly). Great movie, for me.

You remember wrongly. You can "enjoy" Gohan goofing around for what feels like an eternity.
