And she still has no idea how this site works. I bought Broken Sword so I can participate in a group play event but cannot figure out how I get to play it. When I go to the GOG Downloader, is says to choose an app to open it with. Don't know what that means. So I chose MS Works. still don't know what to do. i went to the support pages and it said "Add to GOG Downloader would be an option. It is not. If anyone can explain the process step-by-step to me to play the games I buy, I would really appreciate it. If you respond to this, bear in mind, I do not understand tech speak. I have bought games from this site before and actually played them but it was an accident.
If you want to use the downloader, you need to download and install the latest version first.
https://secure.gog.com/downloader.

If you want to download directly through the browser (although, once the downloader is installed, that is the easier way as you won't have to get confused by multi-file installers, and it supports pausing and resuming), you have to flip the "GOG.com Downloader mode" switch to "off" on the same page you click the download links.
When you download a game, you're downloading the installer. When starting the process, there's a little tab saying whether you want to do so with the GOG Downloader or not, which requires an install. If you choose not to, it downloads through the web browser. Choose to save the file to your computer, find the directory it's saved to after downloading, and run it, and that will create a directory to which the game is installed. A shortcut will be placed onto the computer desktop that you can run from. If you use the downloader, it comes up as a window with a progress bar. When it hits 100%, you hit the little icon next to your game (It may take a little bit to respond) and the install package will activate from there.
You may want to try not to use the downloader, that might make things easier. Here's step-by-step instructions for downloading games without the Downloader tool:

1. Click on "My Account"
2. Click on Broken Sword in your library. The bar with all the downloads related to the game appears.
3. On the right side you click on that switch (by default it's green and says "on") so it says "off".
4. Now on the left side click on "Windows installer, English" (unless you wish to play the *original* version, not the remake - if you want that one you will have to click on "original Broken Sword game" on the right side).
5. The download will start (or a popup ask you whether you want to save the file - that depends on the browser you're using and its settings).
6. Once the download is finished just open the file - directly by double clicking on it, there's no need to use any other program for that.
7. From here it should all be pretty clear. Just follow the on screen instructions to install the game and use the shortcut on your desktop to run it.

68 the last day of this month. I don't really think I'm old, tho.
OK, thanks everyone. I'm off to try a few things. Someone in the group play said they did better without the GOG downloader. Maybe I'll try that.

QC and FALLOUT Got it. Thanks. When I clicked on the name of the game, the GOG d/lder started downloading a lot of game I have never heard of but I ignored that and went and turned the downloader off and went from there. But a 59 minute install does not seem to me like 'fast downloads'. I don't think I'll slap him. He might be older than me.
WHAT!? I didn't mean it as an insult. I was just curious because personally I think anything under three digits is young and I get kind of pissy when I hear people moaning about being old because they just "hit the big 3-0".

Actually he didn't ask my age. He asked me what I thought was old. No offense taken, tiny.

Or her weight. The more I think about it there's really not that many things you can ask a woman.
