Until then let's wait.
Just saw an interesting video about it: https://archive.org/details/dreamworks_neverhood_1996

Already voted long time ago :)
Unfortunately it is not really likely, that this game will be released here on GOG very soon, as the original creators are in IP Wars with EA for a several years now without any success. Currently all their efforts to create a port of the original game for other platforms, or make a direct sequel are effectively blocked by the publisher. What`s funny, that even an upcoming animated movie adaptation seems to be put on hold now.
But there are always some good news - practically the whole team working earlier on the first game are currently working on a pseudo-sequelish (offically a "spiritual sucessor" as usual) thing called Armikrog, funded by almost 1 million dollars collected on Kickstarter.
Considering the current state of development it will be released next year at earliest, but release on GOG is already confirmed.
By the way, the main designer Doug TenNapel is quite open in explaining, why the game cannot be named The Neverhood 2.
Short version:

- Why don’t you make a sequel to The Neverhood?
- A sequel would be a blast, but unfortunately, we don’t own the rights to The Neverhood. When we made the original game for Dreamworks Interactive, we had to assign the rights over to them to in order to get the funding for the project. Now, E.A. owns those rights. We’ve tried over the years to get the rights back from E.A., and while they’ve always been appreciative of our interest, they’ve chosen not to do anything with it for now.

There is no need to create ports anymore - it was already ported to ScummVM which works virtually everywhere from Linux / OS X / Windows to Android, iOS and Wii U.

So all the authors / GOG need to do now, is approach EA and ask them to allow selling the game bundled with ScummVM.

I can contact the authors about it, and clarify what is going on now. I don't think they can fight with EA about anything, EA holds the rights, period. All they can is convince EA to allow selling the game (DRM-free).

Wow, I never read that, thanks.

So interestingly it seems the word "Neverhood" is what's holding back a re-release. Unfortunately if by now GOG have not been able to bring Doug and EA together I don't have high hopes, but you never know.

That post is talking about problems with making a direct sequel reusing the characters and the world. It's not about problems of starting selling the original again. I don't think EA should have any problems with letting GOG do it. Or at least I don't understand what those problems can be, but it's EA after all...

Neverhood CDs are still available on e-bay. So with the new release of ScummVM anyone can play it. But rereleasing it on GOG would be a great return of this game, and EA can even make some money. So why not?

Added the question about the Neverhood to the GOG Q&A:

With the major deal with Disney now being behind, are you working on any missing titles from EA like the Neverhood?

I would love to see this game on here.
While Neverhood on GOG is still only some remote possibility, Armikrog is getting closer to release:

The Neverhood is one of those rare original games that everyone likes: Young & old, men & women, casual & hardcore players, even people who vigorously hate adventure games. You really can't go wrong with this one, so I certainly hope it shows up here.

Yep, that's the most anticipated game for me in 2014 / early 2015 :)
