wpegg: Last time some players tried to disrupt the game by hoarding their fragments, this will not be possible this time round. All fragments will be distributed to at least 2 people.
:)

DProject: The one difference compared to last time seems to be that when the game starts, more than one player will have knowledge of a certain part. This is done so that the game wouldn't come to a halt in case one person decides he isn't going to give up his part no matter what, instead holding on to it and "blackmailing" the rest of the players. One particular fellow said he wasn't going to give up his part unless the player who wanted it, bought him a game in return (can't remember if it was a GOG in question or an indie bundle), after which wpegg, who will always have knowledge of all the parts since he's the host and bought the games, made the part public. So don't hoard, people!
That fellow was me. I wasn't chosen as one of the players at the beginning and just joined to have some fun. So I posted saying I would trade it for any game someone didn't want and I didn't have. I had no specific game in mind so if it was any game I found a bit interesting I would have been happy to trade.

Looking back I found a post where you mentioned not really being interested in some of the games and wpegg saying that it was more important wanting to play and his main concern was people joining only to post the code after finding out it took a bit of effort. Holding it ransom was one method of playing the game and while it wasn't "nice" I don't believe it was too "nasty".

I remember getting several offers but I turned them down. I thought about not trading the code at all and forcing wpegg to post it in the ninja giveaway thread like he said he would (at least I think that's what he said). I felt a bit bad for holding the game ransom after the fact so I purchased and posted a code for Anachronox (the most wanted game) in the thread after wpegg made it public and confused some of the other players while making Nmillar happy.

For anyone who decides to join this giveaway/contest please remember that it's just a game. Don't hold it against anybody if they play a better game than you and while you can be a bit "nasty" don't take it too far. I'm not going to enter this time since I'm content with the games I have and don't really have 1 game I'm dying to play. Have fun guys :)

@CowboyBebop

While your argument is valid, no doubt about it, and holding the parts for ransom was indeed nasty, I don't think wpegg wanted anyone to play the game that way. I'm sure people were intended to trade code parts only, unless someone took the initiative and offered another game himself for a code part. That's the business of the person in question then. However, I feel holding the code for ransom is just a dick move, besides being nasty, and perhaps even too nasty. It brought the game to a halt for a short period of time, and it would've probably stayed that way if wpegg hadn't made the part public. Some could say it even took part of the fun away for a short while. Like you said, it was just a game, and even though the rules were vague, I feel there were "unwritten rules". I did all my trading via parts, although I did make promises I didn't or wouldn't have kept - one was with you actually, before wpegg posted the part :)

Though I must say I guess I did a minor hoard too, which was with Thief, but I feel that was a bit different: I had all the parts except one, and knew which person had the remaining one. I also knew that none other than myself knew more than two parts of the code. Therefor it would've been unwise to give anyone the part I got in the beginning. The thing was however, that the person with the remaining part never showed up during the game, which forced wpegg to post that part as well. Although the cunning man he is, he gave it to Pavel instead of making it public. Then I had to get the part from him with empty promises :)

But yeah, I feel the contest is the most fun when played by these simple rules: Trade parts only. That's just my opinion though. Oh and like wpegg said, it's absolutely crucial for the game that each player who gets assigned, will play too and not sit idle (or ignore the contest completely). Otherwise there will be halts again (though this time giving more than one people the same part right off the bat should prevent this tremendously; I think it's a great improvement to the game!)

Edit: And I think I should add I hold no grudges toward anyone, not even you Bebop, I just want to give some pointers to new players this round and what they should and should not do. Remember, wpegg will always have knowledge of all the parts, and while I like the guy, he can sometimes be unpredictable ;)

Not entering (I will probably not be online at the required time) but thanks and +1 for:

- this original giveaway,
- the other 200 gifts (!) so far,
- the help you give to people posting (I still remember that you were the first to respond to my first question thread and it hasn't been the only time you helped me with a question). :)

So, here's to your generosity, Wpegg!

Also, a little promotion to the giveaway:

I'm a bit confused to how the fragment rounds work. Is it taken in turns? When are you supposed to try to redeem?
Did you read my explanation? (post #44)
No there aren't "turns", once you get your fragments it's up to you to do what's necessary to acquire the rest of the parts (or parts to a different game entirely, of which you don't own any parts). Send PMs to participants, ask what parts they have, ask if they would be willing to trade information "I'll tell you Deus Ex Part 4 if you give me Robin Hood Part 2", and once you have all the parts, just redeem. I feel you're overthinking the whole thing a little.

I edited my post, and changed one of the games. Is that OK, or do I have to re-post the list?

That's fine. I'm hoping that's what most people will do, thus effectively coming to an agreement as to what the eight games are. No need to repost your list.
