I sent this in a message to one of the staff several months back, but figured it wouldn't hurt (too much, hopefully) to post it here at some point.

These appear the most-voted games on the GOG wishlist from publishers we already have here on GOG. Not mentioned in the title, I'm also posting new/indie games whose publishers could (theoretically) release their games here too pretty easily. I also applied some theories as to why they aren't here yet.

(On the plus side, I was able to take several off the list from when I originally sent this as an email - the Wing Commanders, Carmageddon 2, Wasteland, several EA expansions, etc.)

You're welcome to correct my info, too.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - Activision
I assume either the 20 dollar price tag or the use of the Source engine is holding it back from here. "It should not be the engine, as DotEmu did sell it DRM free before. It is not tied into Steamworks." - amok, post below

Final Fantasy VII - Square Enix
I assume they're selling it for a little more than GOG'd want to charge and there are probably regional restrictions, not to mention the two layers of delicious DRM; maybe we could see it come for 9.99 in the future.

Black & White 1 & 2 - EA
(Maybe now that Lionhead is part of Microsoft the rights are with them, or there are compatibility issues)

Dune 1 & 2, Dune 2000 - EA
I thought I'd just add these in case Herbert Properties LLC is able to come to a deal with EA to re-release these games, hopefully with GOG smoothing things out between the two.

American McGee's Alice - EA
"You can't get the original "American McGee's Alice" on Origin. They have the sequel Alice: Madness returns
and some people even have the original in their Origin accounts because it was a pre-release bonus, but you can't buy the original separately from there or anywhere else and its not bundled with Madness Returns any more AFAIK."
- Fever_Discordia, see post on second page

1/31/14: Apparently Amazon is selling a bundle - http://www.amazon.com/Alice-Madness-Complete-Collection-Download/dp/B00AKILZR4

Final Fantasy VIII - Squeenix
Similar situation to 7, I assume

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain - Squeenix
Very messy rights' issues are apparently holding the PC version back, but apparently the PS version was re-released on the PS Store. The issues were discussed here and on the second and third (and probably onward) pages of this thread.

Torchlight 2 - Runic Games
Maybe they don't want a DRM-free release outside of their shop for some time? I thought somebody said something about limited activations for this game, but I guess I was mistaken. "Torchlight 2 has unlimited activations. It has some re-activation problems with a few windows 8 systems, but it was not due to limits, but something that broke when W8 had an update." - amok, post below

Torment: Tides of Numenera - inXile Entertainment
It's happening! In progress.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 1 & 2, Ultimate Collection, Tiberian Sun, etc. - EA
For now they presumably want to keep it exclusive to Origin and Steam, IE not openly DRM-free I guess.

Jazz Jackrabbit - Epic Games
Maybe Epic's not interested in releasing more games here (where's Jill?), or maybe GoD/Take 2 has the rights now since Jazz 2 was published through them.

SimCity 3000 - EA
I assume we'll see this when SimCity 2000 has "run its course", unless there are significant compatibility issues.

Project Eternity - Obsidian Entertainmen
It's happening also! In progress.

The Neverhood - EA
From what I can tell this could appear since it was developed by DreamWorks Interactive and published by EA, and we got Clive Barker's Undying here via those two. I'm guessing compatibility issues are holding this back. Nevertheless, a re-release would be REALLY good if soon with Armikrog. coming out eventually.

2/8/14: ScummVM is now supporting The Neverhood! http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=13475 I hope GOG is behind this.

8/19/14: Hmmm, well it appears that Doug Tennapel owns the rights to the word "Neverhood" - https://www.facebook.com/TheNeverhoodGame/posts/10151798608889466

Wizardry 1 - 5 - Gamepot?
Presumably legal issues Night Dive might be working on. Either that or GOG genuinely believes these games are too old, but of course I certainly hope that's not the case especially considering we have Zork here.

SWAT 4 - Vivendi, Sierra/Activision
Maybe licensing or compatibility issues are holding this back? We have SWAT 3 here, although it does appear to be missing an expansion.

Dungeon Siege 1-3 - originally Microsoft, now Square Enix
"(DSIII was) the first to be published by Square Enix after it acquired the complete ownership of the Dungeon Siege franchise." - Wikipedia

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 - CDPR
These have absolutely no chance of appearing. Yet perhaps they should be marked in-progress.

Mass Effect - EA
Like some sort of pleb I missed this initially. It's already on Steam, maybe it will show up similar to how Jade Empire did.

Dragon Age: Origins (Ultimate Edition) - EA

Worms Armageddon - Team 17
Team 17 seem to be withholding their best Worms titles from GOG. Perhaps the releases here - poor multiplayer, some game issues - are as far as GOG wanted to go. Or maybe in the future GOG could provide their own multiplayer servers? Or it may just be the price, 14.99 for the Steam version - I'd want GOG to hold out for a 9.99 version.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World - Activision
Maybe it will appear when we get a fresh batch of Activision games ... hopefully eventually.

Prince of Persia (Port of 1989 version called "Classic") - Gameloft/Ubisoft
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia_(1989_video_game) says Ubisoft published ports for iOS and Virtual Console, so perhaps a full-on PC port is possible. Assuming Houghton Mifflin (Broderbund's owner) aren't involved, perhaps Gameloft/Ubisoft could publish the DOS version here (preferably a bundle of 1 & 2), as various mods have been released for it. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia_(1989_video_game)#Remake_and_modifications

Heretic II - Activision
Technically this was published by Activision, but it might be held back by id Software retaining some of the rights to the game since id published the first game and "indirect sequel" Hexen.

Flashback (remake at least) - Ubisoft
The Flashback remake was published by Ubisoft, so theoretically we could see it appear here eventually.

Myst III: Exile & Myst IV: Revelation - Ubisoft
"Cyan owns the Myst IP and all Myst-related games currently here, Ubisoft owns those two games. ... Ubisoft has no rights to the Myst-related games already here, only to Myst III and IV, so an agreement would have to be made between Cyan and Ubisoft for them." - Maighstir, posts below

That's it for now. I'll probably continue going down the wishlist as time goes on. Again, correct any misinformation I have.

tfishell: Myst III: Exile & Myst IV: Revelation - Ubisoft or Presto Studio
(I've heard there are funky legal complexities, which is odd. Wikipedia makes it seem like it's all on Ubisoft. Maybe Ubisoft owns the Myst name while Presto owns the game content? If Presto is involved, hopefully it can get sorted out since both Ubi and Presto are on GOG. *Checks GOG* Wait, Cyan owns the Myst rights? I'm out. Somebody else explain it.)

Not only that we have Ultima 1 2 3, Might and Magic 1 and 2, and Bard's Tale 1 2 3. You should have added Akalabeth: World of Doom in that list aswell.

Thank you, will edit to reflect this.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games - GSC Game World

GSC still owns the full rights and is unlikely to allow any new licencing until the release of their next game. Aside frommthe fact Deep Silver supposedly still owe them their cut from Call of Pripyat (maybe Clear Sky too), and Deep Silver are under the impression they've bought the rights (they haven't, they bought the rights to make a game based upon Strugatsky Bros. Roadside Picnic ) so legal problems are bloating out an already difficult quagmire with the death of the last of the Strugatskys.

Edit: as to THQ I'm pretty sure all they had was a distribution licence and I seem to remember Gregoriy stating that GSC had slowly bought all of that back. Can anyone clarify on that?

Also see my edit, if you missed it. Ubisoft has no rights to the Myst-related games already here, only to Myst III and IV, so an agreement would have to be made between Cyan and Ubisoft for them.

tfishell: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - Activision
(I assume either the 20 dollar price tag or the use of the Source engine is holding it back from here)
It should not be the engine, as DotEmu did sell it DRM free before. It is not tied into Steamworks.

Nobody that played B & W 2 wants it here. Anyone that didn't should take our advice.

As for theme park, perhaps scaling issues there, but Theme Park World should be ok to get?

Elmofongo: I like to know what are the chances of these games coming here:
Warcraft 1,2, and 3
Starcraft 1
Diablo 1 and 2
Very slim. Especially since Warcraft games are apparently being made to run on modern systems and re-released by BLizzard, but apparently only through Battle.net (however, it may be DRM free there)

Also I want you to know that the list I put was ready made from a note I saved in my computer so when ever something like this thread comes out I post this list of Important/Popular Classic PC games that should be here.
Great post mate, thanks for pulling this together. A lot of these I'd like to see here.

The Neverhood appears to be in some kind of rights purgatory, since even the creators (and the folks behind Armikrog) apparently couldn't secure the rights themselves. Armikrog clearly looks like The Neverhood 2, but isn't. The creators posted something about the whole rights fiasco, I'll see if I can find the link again.

EDIT: No dice, and it looks like the FAQ on the fundraiser is mute on the topic now too.

Elmofongo: Half-Life 1 and 2
Counter-Strike 1 and Condition Zero
Team Fortress Classic
About zero, because Valve already have a distribution platform for those. They can reap the profits nicely and keep the games hostage to attract people to Steam.
avatar
Elmofongo: The Elder Scrolls Arena, Daggerfall,Morrowind+Tribunal+Bloodmoon
Bethesda seem to be big on DRM, so don't expect Morrowind any time soon. Arena and Daggerfall are freeware these days as far as I know, but releasing them on GOG would still mean signing a contract - and with its current DRM policy, I doubt Bethesda would want to do that since people might start bothering them about further GOG releases.
avatar
Elmofongo: Grand Theft Auto 1,2,3,Vice City, and San Andreas
Doesn't Rockstar have a DRM system of its own these days? Rockstar Social Club or something? I haven't paid any attention to what they've been up to, to be honest.

I figured as much. ;) You posted it pretty quickly. I don't have the energy to go through the full list, but here's my take on Akalabeth at least.

Akalabeth: World of Doom - I guess there was an iPhone port - http://www.quantumtoast.com/akalabeth/ - so maybe we could see that come here. Otherwise, I think it's all up to Richard Garriot to allow the game to appear, but really I think it'd have to come for far less than 5.99. It does seem important enough to bring, but like The Lords of Midnight or even Wasteland I think we'd want an updated look maybe bundled with the DOS original.
