I do feel for you. Although I have a job - right now - my partner and I basically live paycheck to paycheck relying on her income, so I have been looking for a job for several months now.

I cannot give you any advice that has not been expressed better earlier in this thread, but I will say that if you are in for finding a job quickly that going for jobs you have done (well) in the past will be easier.

I have applied to many jobs and have on several occasions had replies of "Although we were able to find someone with more appropriate skills for the job you applied for, we currently have job openings for warehouse staff which you would be right for. If you would like we can pass your CV across."
The problem is I want to get out of warehouse work and into IT. I really fear being pidgin-holed into warehouse work so I always kindly say no as I want to move on my career into something more interesting to myself. The 10 years at my current employer would pay dividends if I was interested in still working in warehouses.

Sorry to hear that. Hmm, not many advices to give since most of the ones I would have said have already been mentioned.

Ask your friends/relatives that are working if their companies are hiring.

One novel (so far) suggestion is to get in touch with the institution from which you graduated and attend any job fair activities that they have. Once there, don't hand out résumés. Instead focus on networking with the people there, preferably not recruiters but with managers if they are present. Then get their email addresses so that you can send them your résumé and follow up the next day, including an ID-type photo to remind them. This way your résumé does not get lost in a pile, you make a personal impression, and you get to re-introduce yourself within 24 hours!

Arteveld is being so kind and patient with me, folks! I screwed up the Steam gift purchase (yeah, I know, how did you manage that?!), and the game thinks it's been redeemed already. I've opened up a ticket with Steam. We'll see if they can resolve the issue for me. If not, I'll just repurchase and get the games to the winner, albeit somewhat late.

Oh, Steam gods, have pity on a poor bumbling out-of-work guy and on the winner of the aforementioned's giveaway!
