Well, Narnia is a series of several quite large books. So I don't think the movies were that bloated to start with. At least not in the extent the hobbit was. I think the first Narnia movie was actually quite true to the first book.

But the Hobbit is one quite slim book. So to stretch it over three movies they had to throw in a lot of unnecessary stuff that wasn't in the book. That is a bit annoying. But what is amazing is, that they still managed to cut important parts. It would have been nice for someone to say to Jackson: "Hey, if you are that desperate for additional screentime, how about NOT cutting anything from the book? You have all the time you want, there's no need to cut anything. You might even need far less made-up, unnecessary battles then!"
Apart from chasing him away, because the Witch King shied away from the confrontation and fled. And Gandalf couldn't chase him because 1) he didn't have a flying mount and 2) he decided to save Faramir.

Seriously, I was thinking the same thing about where all the time was spent. You add all these fights but can't do Beorn justice. You cut Bilbo's dialogue with Smaug but add this scary town stuff AND a elf/orc fight in Laketown AND Kili having to be saved by Tauriel....

(I agree. Those scenes seem like they were just reworked from the Fellowship with Arwen & Frodo.)

I know Breja is technically correct, but a lot of their talk and even their song suggested they hoped to win their home back entirely. Stealing a few coins, pots, and the Arkenstone and then running away was not nearly as inspiring a goal anyway. Nah. They needed a plan to get rid of the dragon. Even if it didn't work, they actually had one in the movie, and my inner nerd fairy was very, very happy.

IMNSHO, Gandalf the White could have given the Witch King what-for is he hadn't needed to save Faramir & could have flown. Thing is, the movie had Gandalf the Grey looking like he was losing to some minor orc junk and Nazgul ghosts (not yet fully reconstituted.) Gandalf is tougher than that!

I read somewhere that had the armies of Rohan not come and WK not flown away, Gandalf would probably have unleashed his greater power upon WK to prevent him from entering the city. Arguably that would have blown WK out of the water. Gandalf's only opponent strong enough to take on him is Sauron, both of them are Maiar and Gandalf would definitely put up a great fight 1v1.

Tom Bombadil would own all though, except Illuvatar.

All of the reviewers gave in depth reviews on what they found troubling about the second film. They certainly convey a lot more information that I wasn't capable of doing during my first post.

If Gandalf used all his potential and power and not hold back, he probably can take on Sauron by himself, whether he wins though is up to Tolkien. Gandalf pretty much gave the Witch King an ultimatum at the gates of Gondor, and probably won't hesitate to unleash his Maiar powers on WK.

The deleted scene in the ROTK film of Gandalf falling and staff breaking is kinda dumb. Good thing it's deleted.

It's in the SEE, though. Which is the only version of any of the LOTR or Hobbit movies that I accept. Even though there's at least one thing in almost every SEE that I could've done without. >_>

FOTR: Gimli's "alternate make-up", after they encounter Haldir. Kinda throws me off, when Gimli looks complete different just for that one scene.
ROTK: all scenes involving Aragorn and the ghost army taking out the coirsairs of Umbar. Way to ruin the effect when they arrive at Pelennor.
AUJ: That goblin song. That f***in' goblin song. Ugh! Oh, and dwarf ass in Rivendell. >_>

They hoped to EVENTUALLY reclaim their homeland, but not throug this quest, just like enyone would hope for a happy ending one day. And it is also important, and the movies alteration is in fact a big one (again). It is important, that events overtook the dwarves and Bilbo, that the result of their mission was much grander then they have expected.

And Gandalf the white was boring as shit. He was boring in the books too, so that isn't really Jackson's fault. Another reason Fellowship is better. Gandalf the gray got lost sometimes, he was mischievous and liked to pull pranks, and he was actually an interesting character with human qualities.

Gandalf the white sat around on his horse and barked orders at people and generally acted stuffy and preachy. Again, Fellowship for the win. I'll take Gandalf the gray any day over General Gandalf mcdullboring.

But Gandalf the White did do this awesome thing: Chaging head first with Rohirrim behind him in the finale of the Battle of Helm's Deep.

Look, I granted you the technical point, and that's all I'm going to do. You aren't going to convince the kid I was or the adult I am, nor even my giggling inner nerd fairy any different. I am really glad this change was included, and we saw a plan from the dwarves, because I think it should have been there right along. Lets agree to disagree. Okies?

I don't care what You will "grant" me. I am simply pointing out that the change is for the worse. It's a fact. It weakens the story and that it makes no sense. Why do you need a burglar, if you want to KILL a dragon, not STEAL from him? You are welcome to be glad of that change however. It is everyones right to wrong :)
