No one is feeling the holiday spirit it seems :(

I will rectify that:

DieRuhe: Yay Halloween! Best holiday. Personally, I don't think gore is scary; I prefer things that are more atmospheric (say, The Others or The Woman In Black).

Elmofongo: the 3 vids we posted were disturbing so gore and violent scenes is scary if done right.
Very rarely though, at least to me. The more you show, the less scary it becomes. Add in a sense of isolation and of helplessness, and you have the recipe for good horror.

scarier if it was just one guy in the pit.

It is too obvious. You can clearly see what the "enemy" is, it is everywhere, and it is non-stop action. Scary games & movies needs to keep the actual "action" to a minimum. Let the viewer/player not know what is going on. The unknown is almost always creepier than the known. Also, guns is the bane of all horror.

Now if they were left stranded on an island, knowing that "something" is out there, always being forced to be on the edge, and let one person disappear every once in a while, often more with implied action, rather than action on screen. Also, make sure that no person is the obvious main character, keep the viewer guessing who will make it and who will not (when it comes to movies). Also, there needs to be a buildup phase, where you find out that something is not right, yet nothing bad happens.

Now look why is it that fear has to be only the unknown, what you don't see, it fucks with head, etc.

Fear comes in all shapes and sizes, you would be scared if you were at sea and a Class 5 Hurricane was ahead.

If I were to stand face to face with a big monster, or know that a hurricane was coming in, and that I could do nothing to avoid it, then I would of course be afraid, but in movies & games (and books), fear takes on an entirely different form. I'm not afraid when a character stands face to face with a big monsters or when it is running from a tornado. I might find the scene interesting, engaging and/or exciting, but I don't feel fear.
A Halloween thread with creepy videos posted? Here is a creepypasta related video that legitimately scared me the first time I watched it:

You know I realize this thread is missing The One.

The one that is the most terrorfyingly, horryifyingly, awfully, disturbingly, sickening, repugnant, most evil scariest thing to ever exist ever:
