Chandoraa: I liked the voice acting for FFX. I didn't exactly love Tidus, and the laughing scene sure is obnoxious (although it didn't seem to break my immersion quite as much as others'), but in general, I found it pretty good. Special mention to the voices for Auron an Yuna, who happen to be my favourite FF character and my favourite female FF character.
I think part of the reason for me was his character as well, the effeminate, whining, wimpy character. As I said earlier, the voice fitted this kind of character, both annoying (IMO). While it's not a real game breaker, I did find it off putting at times.

Chandoraa: That's what you get for mentioning that ungodly abomination that dares call itself a sequel to FFX....
I know what you mean. They finally break tradition and make an FF squeal game, and that's what we get. A slightly perverted J-pop game.

Chandoraa: As per the results, they are not surprising, but they should not be seen as representing the general male/female gamer demographic, only male/female goglodyte gamer demographic...
That's true, but then it was never meant to be anything official or even completely accurate. It was just a bit of fun and to get to know more about our fellow GOGers (specifically my fellow GOG girls). It would take a lot more than one person and two giveaways to get a completely impartial view of gaming tastes between each gender.

I got pizzas guys!

...

I guess i'm too late. Knew i shouldn't have taken that shortcut through the woods. Curses!

Well congratulations to the winners. :)

Haven't quite read through the thread yet.

awalterj: From this list it's not entirely conclusive where games like The Settlers would fit in, strategy or managerial?
I always thought managerial games like the Theme / Sim / Tycoon / Anno / Patrician series etc* were equally popular among men and women.

*EDIT: And not to forget about Caesar/Cleopatra/Zeus

toxicTom: The Settlers don't know themselves where they belong...

I don't like either RTS or managerial games, but DO like The Settlers (1 and 2, that is).
I've always seen The Settlers series as a combibation of slow paced RTS game/build&conquer. Similarly to Age of Empires.

What are the shells made of though? ;-)

ddickinson: As for the group of kids, it's not up to me what the kids do, blame the parents for letting them loose every Halloween.

* Looks out of boarded up window and spots the group of kids sniffing around awalterj. They smell the mints! *

* Sees him run to the safety of his bunker, followed closely behind by the now cannibalistic sugar crazed ten year old kids *

Though I can't leave Hyper out there, especially as he is still out cold after my little tap with the cricket bat.

* Risks own life to runs back to Hyper to drag his semi-concious body to safety. Tells him it was awalterj who hit him *
Ah, you want me to be the villain of the story and you the hero? Hmm ok...but HypersomniacLive already knows of the Aftereight treason and plot and he will remember.

Those kids won't get past the Toblerone Line but even if they do, I'll use the grenade launcher to throw Kinder Überraschung eggs at them, an outlawed weapon in the USA but here we still use them to pacify kids. Once they've eaten the chocolate and the little toys inside are revealed, they'll be too busy playing to be after me.
Congrats to both Ingsoc85 and toxicTom and thank you ddickinson for running the giveaway and compiling all that data! :D

You should also know a thing or two about compiling data. ;-P

*snickers and scammers away (not to be confused with scamming *wink*)
congrats to Ingsoc85 and Toxictom!

And another thank you to the lovely ddickinson for a fabulous GA and an interesting thread. I have really enjoyed reading both the girls and boys'. :)
Congrats to the winners, and thanks again to ddickerson for throwing the GAs :) It's been a blast.
Thanks very much for your generous, "controversial" giveaways, ddickerson!

Edit: and the discussion was interesting to lurk on as well :)

That's why I decided to simplify the results, as some games can fit into many different sub genres. I understand awalterj's point about it not being the most comprehensive summary, but it was a lot easier and quicker to simplify the results. Especially as it was just a bit of fun, and not an official survey.

Before I clicked on the link, I was picturing some huge bars of Toblerone chocolate, blocking their way to your bunker. I'm pretty sure that the Kinder Überraschung egg grenade launcher is banned everywhere, it's even mentioned in the Genova convention :-).

Many thanks to ddickerson for this awesome series of GAs and congrats to Ingsoc85 and Toxictom !

I guess the gender GAs end here since going any further would probably get anyone involved flagged lol.
Congratulations to Ingsoc85 and toxicTom! And many thanks to ddickinson for her generosity and thought-provoking giveaways!

Very cool to see that four of the Top Five most favorite genres are the same for both men and women. Different orders, sure, but that's very pleasantly surprising. I think this conclusion means we should finally retire the "gamer girl" monicker and just all be labeled "gamers". Crazy talk, I know, but the evidence backs me up!
Congratulations to the winners and thanks ddickinson for the giveaway.

They'll be safely on their way to the hospital and won't bother you.
