hehe, I did the take a screenshot of the desktop and then hide all the icons trick on my co-worker. The best part about doing it at work (non engineer/It) is that most people have no clue what just happened or how to fix it. It's also really easy to reverse.
I also like the one where you set their mouse scrolling speed to near zero. Not only is it really annoying, it's annoying to fix because it will take you forever to move your mouse around to get to the right control panel menu.

another thing is many corporate level computers have a secret key code that you can use to rotate a persons desktop. taking a screenshot of someones desktop, then deleting the icons, then flipping their desktop is going to confuse the shit out of them.
I wouldn't do the mouse trick unless they're not very savvy.
I personally prefer a bit of scotch tape over the optical receiver.

My schoolmates aren't exactly computer-savyy, so I find that a simple string of JavaScript alert will have hilarious effects.
One time I had several browser windows telling my friend what to do, otherwise "a hacker" would delete his school hard drive. In the pre-typed browser messages, I told him he had to do exactly what he was instructed to. 5 minutes later, and he's hopping around our computer-class room whilst everyone are giving him funny looks.
Good times.

Well most of them use Intel GMAs for their video card and those have the flip codes built in, very handy for reading ebooks on my netbook, I can read them like a normal novel

Aside from raising a dead topic here...
I hate that Intel GMA screen-flip. Students do it a lot, to the great annoyance of teachers (who don't remember how to fix it), if I forget to add the scrip to remove the reg-keys. Thankfully, I can take over control of the PC from my office and not have to get up and walk! :)

we have to make a formal definition of old. If we take it to be the same as GOG, then something is only old if its from 2006 or earlier
