tinyE: Are you suggesting Steve would be a idiotic name for a folder? :P
Steve's a great name for a folder. Unless you know someone called Steve. Then it would become creepy, fast.
I think Steve is the perfect name for a folder.
I can't believe that some of the follow up my stupid jokes get. :D You all are the best friends a dork like myself could have.

Similar minds make great company? Unless said minds hate company, I guess.

They are, I am not. Or not yet. I would find it funny too if it wouldn't be my idea you try to make fun of. Because it's a perfectly serious, reasonable, ... idea that definitely deserves more, for example realization. Then I wouldn't mind. :)

My apologies, I meant no disrespect. .

I resemble that remark.... ¬¬
This has gone a bit off-topic, guys please stay on the subject :)
Does the downloader currently display new game updates? For example the update from today (Deponia). Next time the GOG downloader is fired up it could check for it and asks if Deponia should be updated on my computer too. Otherwise I might forget about it.

Arkose: The GOG Downloader will replace an existing installer if the installer has been updated at GOG's end without the version number increasing. Similarly, extras will always be replaced when updated since they always have the same file names. This isn't remote deletion, it's simply querying the file on the server and replacing it if it doesn't match.
No, I have seen files with specific version numbers disappear when a new one was downloaded. The files had different filenames. I discovered this when running my regular backups, which detected the disappearance of the files.

tburger: I belive you need to cool down ...I don't think GOG downloader deletes any files (intentionally or not) with the exception maybe for chunk files.
Well, I'll trust the report from by backup software showing that a file that was there is no longer there over what you think. And I'm not talking about chunk files.

puviani: There is a hideous new "feature" (which you can't turn off) that DELETES previous versions of our game installers when we update a game!
Which version of the downloader?

Fallen_Zen: Please shed more light on the matter. Are you downloading to the same folder? If the new file has the same name as any existing file in that folder it will get replaced (you may want to change their name before downloading new version or move to another directory). Besides that Downloader shouldn't delete any other files.
I am downloading to the same folder, but the files that disappeared did not have the same name (I would have understood this as a normal behavior). I'm not at my home computer right now, so I can't list the specific games on which this happened, but there were installers with specific version numbers in the name (and in one case, the files for alternative language installations) that disappeared after an update using the GOG downloader. This was confirmed when I backed up the files to another HD using GoodSync, which detected the deletions I had suspected. I agree that the Downloader shouldn't delete other files, but somehow, it did.

I'll ask Szulak to verify this and get back to you with an answer. If there's a bug in the Downloader, it'll be fixed. Thanks.

P.S. Could you describe (step by step) which version you've had and which you were downloading? When did the files disappear? Upon clicking on a download button? Logging out?

I wish I could be more specific, but I didn't observe the exact moment at which the files disappeared. I regularly check for updates and, after downloading them all, I run a backup of my GOG installers. Somewhere between the update and the backup (which came immediately after) some of the files disappeared.

The version with which this happened was either the one just before the current release or the one before that. I don't remember this happening with the latest version, but when it happened, it did so only for some games, so I can't say for certain that the behavior disappeared. As a side note, which is probably unrelated (but who knows), a couple of versions ago, the Downloader froze after updating more than about a dozen games and had to be restarted. Again, I haven't seen this recently, but only because that put me in the habit of updating 5 or 6 games at a time and reloading the Downloader while it's still healthy.

When I get home, I'll see if I still have the report from GoodSync, though I suspect it was purged.

By the way, just to add to the diagnostic information, the disk has always been and still is healthy, so it isn't a corrupted MFT. This was the first thing I checked when I detected the missing files.
Doesn't those get deleted sometimes when you clear that downloader page.. It mentions it but it wasn't always like that. But when I formatted my hard drive, now it at least downloads those in the right place and opens the right folder.
