babark: I was going to voice suspicions about your motives, but then I saw you're a "Battle sister" as well.

ddickinson: Out of curiosity, what suspicions would you have raised if I was a man?
I...guess I didn't consider that you may not be heterosexual. So....my suspicions are still there? Damn, I don't know.

Nice giveaway. I'm a boy, so not in but it's nice of you to do a giveaway!

hedwards: This unbelievably sexist. And anybody that repped the post up ought to be ashamed of themselves. Women get enough freebies thrown at them for no particularly good reason to begin with. I'd like to think that GOG would be a bit less sexist.
While I do not like any sort of contest that singles out any sort of demographic (whether by sex, age, race, religion, etc) I think the tone of your post is... not right.

'Women get enough freebies thrown at them for no particularly good reason to begin with.'

Really? You claim the OP is sexist (and I dislike the limitation by sex, considering the wrath an all 'insert other demographic' promotion would go but I hesitate to call it sexist) and then you reply with one of the most inane and sexist comments I have seen on GoG.

hedwards: Whether or not there's one for men later on or not, GOG is generally too classy for these sorts of contests that are based upon being born into the correct classification.
I apologise if you find the giveaway to be sexist, but it was not meant to be sexist, just a fun series giveaways.

However, I do find it amusing that you complain about it being sexist, and about GOG not standing for such actions, yet you seem to be okay with spouting such arrogant and blatantly sexist remarks as: "Women get enough freebies thrown at them for no particularly good reason to begin with". It seems a little hypocritical to me.

ddickinson: Calm down. As I said, there will be one for the guys as well. How is it sexist or unfair if I am hosting one for the women and one for them men?
Even if you weren't, I don't see how it's any of his business. After all, it's your giveaway, so your rules apply. I think it's kind of weird that someone can be so negative about a giveaway of all things, which is essentially an unselfish thing. You're doing something for the community, which is a great gesture, regardless of how you wish to do it. And even besides that, I've seen you host several giveaways, so you appear to be a very generous person in general.

All right, end of rant, on to happier things. :)

EDIT: I'll be in for the 5.99 game, and I'd also like to nominate Crewdroog now that she's here, as she just cheered me up by telling her fainting story.

As for my favourite genres:

1. RPGs, hands down. I love entering a different world and playing a different person. Before I played Knights of the Old Republic several years ago I wasn't much of a gamer (although I'd beaten Diablo 2 a few times :P). That game totally managed to hook me, though, and since then I've become addicted to playing RPGs. I do prefer games that allow me to play as a woman, as I find it easier to relate to the main character that way. I think I like RPGs so much because I'm really into storytelling. I've always loved reading and watching films, and that has carried over to my gaming preferences. Actual gameplay is less important to me than characters and plot. And yes, I'm also totally a sucker for romance, I guess I just tend to be a bit nerdy about it. One of my favourite book genres is sci-fi romance. :P

2. Point-and-click games. This was a pretty recent discovery for me. I bought some of Wadjet Eye's games on sale here a while back, and I thought they were absolutely brilliant. This probably also has something to do with the fact that they are very much story-driven. I had to force myself to look past the pixel art style at first, but now Wadjet Eye's games are some of my favourites, and I love the atmosphere in the games. I've branched out to several other point-and-clicks since then. I also bought Gray Matter when it was released here, and that game is now one of my favourites as well.

3. Other than the two genres mentioned above, I don't have a strong preference for certain types of games. I do enjoy playing the occasional adventure or platforming game. I'm not really into FPS games, but I did find myself (unexpectedly) enjoying System Shock 2 a while back. I do like visual novels, which I suppose may be somewhat girly. I particularly enjoyed MoaCube's Cinders (the art style is incredibly gorgeous), and I've preordered their upcoming game, which also seems amazing.

Thanks for the great giveaway, and I'm excited to meet some of the other girls on here!

Can blokes with really tiny wieners join?

And the most philoshopycal question: if they do, would they really want to admit having a tiny wiener just for the chance of winning a game?

Thank you. I really did not start the giveaway with any sexist intent, especially as I will be hosting a giveaway for both sexes. I kind of wish I had not bothered now, especially if it is going to become just a bunch of angry people complaining about it being sexist.

I was simply trying to do something different and to get to know some other girls here on GOG. I was curious as to what kind of games the other women here on GOG play and to get a bigger picture of how many women gamers there are here. I guess you can't please everyone.
I'm not in since I just won a game from the BBBBOB, but I'll list my top three game genres.

RPGs - I love pretty much all RPGs except JRPGs (the only one I liked was Chrono Trigger). Some of my favorites are Diablo 1 & II, Elder Scrolls series, Fallout 3, Avernum. I just really like the stories (especially when you can make choices in dialog) and customization in them and that you can play a character that fits your style.

Platformers - I've been playing games since I was probably 4 or 5 and I grew up in the 90s so a lot of the games I played were platformers like Super Mario. One of my favorite games at the time was Yoshi's Island. I still like playing platformers (Super Meat Boy was really fun), I like the challenge and skill they require, it just feels like classic gaming.

Roguelikes - Roguelikes are a more recent genre that I've discovered and I LOVE them. I love the challenge and especially when levels are procedurally generated since no two playthroughs will be the same. They take skill to master and they're just really fun.

ddickinson: Don't worry, you can always save it for the men's giveaway :-).
A-ha, now you have mind-reading powers too! ;-P

I expect you to argue against it with the same passion when it goes live, right?

*waits for the usual "this is ridiculous" comment*

I am a guy and do not see this giveaway as sexist. In fact it is ridiculous to think so, given that the giveawayer has given games to guys too. If I had hosted one gazillion giveaways and chosed to make one only for british people, would that make me racist?

Duh.

At first I was like "A sexist thread/ga by ddickinson? No way! :/",
then I was like "Ok, I'll check if there really will be one for the boys.",
then I was like "Hmm, a list of all females on GoG? Interesting!"
and I finally reached: "What about hermaphrodites?"

You're on a slippery slope, me heartie. :D

No, there's just no pleasing some people. I for one love your idea, as I don't really have a clue who is female on here, and I'd love to get to know some of the other women. And, like you, I'm also interested to hear what we like to play! So don't let them get you down. :)

I still can not really understand how it can be seen as sexist, especially when I am hosting one for the men and one for the women. I guess I must have some different standards for what I consider sexist, but I definitely would not consider someone's jovial giveaway to be something so sinister. It was mean as a bit of fun, a novel theme to the two giveaways, one for the men, one for the women.

Perhaps I should just quit while I'm ahead, stop trying to find different themes for my giveaways and just stop doing them, at least that way I won't get people all offended.

I know that you are a kind soul and don't want to offend anyone, it's just that most people know how the general reaction would be if someone out of the blue would start a giveaway only for men or (behold) Germans and imho the reaction would be rightfully deserved (can be ignored though). Some men have simply begun to act against a double standard that is surely not even present in you personally.

Please go on, I know you are only searching for themes.
