MadyNora: I remember playing Mass Effect 2, where I was forced to stare at Miranda's ass almost every single time I talked to her -.- An ass is covering half my screen.... I wanted to vomit. Especially after I learned that many male players thought that "finding a way to bang Miranda" is much more important than the actual gameplay.
I thought us males all wanted to bang Jacob Taylor and that's why same-sex relationships were added. Damn, I totally misread the marketing on that one.
ET3D: The only muscle-bound man I find somewhat bothering is Superman. He's supposed to be strong at the cellular level, and yet he's often depicted as if he's lifting planets all day long.

I support this thread, even if it's "sexist" (I'm with Vestin on that).
Two thoughts:
Good to see the diversity of views.
Good that in real life mistaking someone's gender is much harder.
Where did that last come from? Well not being very social online I had at least 4 surprises about someone's gender in this thread alone. Interestingly these were all individuals I got into somewhat frustrating arguments with recently. Maybe this is sexist, but I believe the genders have different typical communication preferences. In real life, if debating women I use different approaches.
Do carry on. Both thumbs up.

Wow, this is a pretty hot topic!
I'm a guy and I really liked the idea even before opening the thread itself! I think being a female gamer is a lot harder than being a male gamer. The OP did not forbid guys from posting, this is just a little present to a special group in our community. Actually she even went as far as to mention a male-only giveaway as well, so I don't think anyone has any reason to complain. She's giving away something for free, she has the right to decide who gets it.
I'm also perfectly fine with others' disagreeing, just don't start a flame war ;)
Just my 1.54 euro cents (regional pricing...)

ddickinson: I still can not really understand how it can be seen as sexist, especially when I am hosting one for the men and one for the women. I guess I must have some different standards for what I consider sexist, but I definitely would not consider someone's jovial giveaway to be something so sinister. It was mean as a bit of fun, a novel theme to the two giveaways, one for the men, one for the women.
Perhaps I should just quit while I'm ahead, stop trying to find different themes for my giveaways and just stop doing them, at least that way I won't get people all offended.
Look Don't Quit I'm a guy, I like things like this guys just hate feminism and feminists and their white knighting manginas maybe the guys on here are complaining because they think you're a feminist. Clearly you don't align yourself as such? Perhaps I should just quit while I'm ahead, stop trying to find different themes for my giveaways and just stop doing them, at least that way I won't get people all offended.
We are both in it for the long run can't we all just get along!
Fixed for Spelling I've been dreadfully sick lately!

I resent being called a boy. That's age-ism! :-)
It seems just about all giveaways have some sort of exclusivity here. It's interesting, to say the least, that all sorts of reasons can be used to justify who gets excluded from a giveaway (and those reasons are accepted by most - but really, isn't a rep limit a discrimination based simply on not knowing "enough" about a person and assuming they're not "worthy" to enter?), yet something as simple as gender raises the ire of some?

ddickinson: But generally I don't mind at all. The reason I don't really mind, is that the majority of games are made by men. While this does not apply to all games or all male developers, men make games they would like, that they can relate to and think other like minded men would make. That is why there is always the story of the helpless maiden and the white knight, the sexy female warrior who falls for the charm of the hero, the fact that every woman looks like a super model and is only too happy to dress "sexy" (or slutty). The games are a reflection of the men's fantasies, their imaginations, their hops and dreams. I'm sure when they were kids that most men have imagined themselves as heroic warrior defending the kingdom, slaying the beast and getting the girl. As long as the game is not blatantly sexist, then I have no problem appreciating them for what they are. I'm sure that with more and more female gamers and developers, that we will so start to see games created from a woman's prospective, full of the things we like that may not appeal to the male gamers. Personally, I do not consider the Larry games sexist. I know many do, but I think of them more of a parody of sexism. After all, the main character is a pathetic and desperate little man.
Not in for the giveaway (due to being a man). Just thought I would come along and say that I agree entirely with this. And that the inverse is true in areas where female writers/creators are more prominent (for example romance novels, or what is commonly called 'chic lit') which depict men as the kind of men women would like to meet or portray female fantasies. This isn't sexist, men write about male characters and the things men want and find appealing, women write about female characters (although in my experience women write much more convincing male characters than men do female) doing things they find appealing. It's a bit depressing to see the number of people here who would jump on a simple act of kindness and call it out as some kind of dreadful injustice. Keep up the good work ddickenson! Not all of us men are morons.

Ahem
Onwards.
I think people have a real nasty habit of believing "Acknowledgement" is "Exclusion" if their group isn't allowed to participate.

sunshinecorp: Actually, to be a stickler, the word "sexism" only has negative meaning.
The GA itself is not sexist because it's just a fuckin' GA.
The word has a negative connotation. The GA itself is not sexist because it's just a fuckin' GA.
The obvious problem with what you're suggesting is that we'd be arbitrarily disregarding the fact that something fits the dictionary definition just because we dislike the fact that it's associated with being something wrong.
"Sexist" isn't defined as "discriminating based on sex and BAD". The "bad" part comes from the fact that in a hell of a lot of cases that IS something bad. Not so here, but that doesn't mean that we should insist the term doesn't fit all of a sudden.
On the other hand - some people adore abusing this ambiguity to imply that things are bad just because they objectively fit a definition of something that is considered derogatory. I simply refuse to believe that the right course of action is to deny that a term has been used correctly purely because we don't want it apply in a particular case.

The same could be said with 'parity', 'equality' and 'fairness' as these notions arose in thread earlier.
Making a GA for women only is fair. It would have been unfair to open it for everyone and giving favor to women (and yes, the irony is amusing).
Making another one for men enforces parity.
Having less women than men for the same prizes in each GA makes respective odds unequal ; but it has nothing to do with parity or fairness.
The important fact is that it is a GA, I mean it's a one way street. The matter would have been different for a trade or a sale.
