So here i was, sitting at home, with my games i had just bought at a budget price.and i had inserted alpha protocol to play first. Now knowing that this game came of the review board with poor scores, i wasn't expecting too much. But this game has absolutely blown me away so far, Sure it was criticized heavily, but for a new IP it did good.

So what are some games that did poorly on the review board that you thought were actually good?
Yeah, Alpha Protocol is a pretty good example.
Oni got some bad reviews, and I cannot understand why. The game is brilliant.
Alpha protocol definitely fits this criteria, these so called "Professional Reviewers" had no idea what they were talking about when they talked about this game, this is true for most other games as well

The real reason and point I stopped caring about "Reviews" was when they gave bad scores for Nier

Nier's a bad game? Yeah...Your Fucking Mom's a bad game
Deadly Premonition aka Red Seeds Profile if you import from Japan. Twin Peaks: The Game. One third of the game is survival horror where you fight demons in the Other world, which takes over entire buildings. One third is campy dialogue and investigating among the weird people of a small American town (they even have a crazy pot lady). Oh, the main character has a split personality, by the way. The final third is playing darts, fishing, completing sidequests, such as teaching a local police lady how to cook.
Ultima IX, what I got to play of it back in the day, was fun. I am admittedly an Ultima fanboy and I do not care that it had flaws. To me the game was a big deal being the last one and moving to a new graphics presentation. I really hope it comes to GOG so I can play it again and complete it this time.

Yeah. One of the deepest stories I've seen in games

I've heard a lot of good things about Deadly Premonition online, it's great that the game is Coming to PS3 in the west, I'll definitely give it a shot when I get my hands on a PS3 copy

For real???
*googles*
HOLY CRAP!
I just got the Jap PS3 release delivered this week. Enjoying the hell out of it, even though I have to take a peek at guides when some stuff is unclear.
Definitely will get the remaster day one.
+1 for Alpha Protocol, bought it in a Steam sale for next to nothing and absolutely love it. Stealth is a little funny to get used to but works, standard gun combat with cover mechanic works well. Its a great action packed game.

FarCry 2 got above average reviews but the gripe is with the fast respawning enemies. Still an action packed shooter with great locations and views.

Rogue Trooper and Jusdge Dredd (Dredd Vs Death), great games coming from Rebellion and the 2000AD comics, been reading them for years and love Dredd to this day. REALLY hope they are actually right behind the new Dredd movie with Karl Urban, apparently this time around you will not see Dredds face and bit of luck they will keep things right within the universe.

Clive Barkers Jericho, very console orientated shooter but the locations and time shifts are really good. Not as good as Undying but still a decent shooter.
Just thought of another one, its more hit/miss though, Fuel was actually good for me, And it was packed with unlockables to collect. Admittedly, driving to the collectables (Vinyls and stuff) was annoying but i guess it was part of the game and you had to have to mindset for exploration.
I loved AP.

Other games that I love that were bad sellers :

Too Human, I really loved that game, but the strange controls put people off at the time, Once you got used to the controls you would wonder why more games didnt use them.

metro 2033, the games economics I think put people off, a survival horror shooter, where bullets were the games currency.

Clive Barkers Jericho, dunno why it flopped so bad, I loved the ability to switch characters and gamestyle. I think people hated the QTE's.

Far Cry 2, I loved that game and the gfx were very immersive, people hated the respawning checkpoints and the malaria thing, never really bothered me tbh, more checkpoints = more shooting, if you dont like shooting, why play a FPS?? The malaria was a plot point for missions/quests, but people hated it, dunno why.

Cryostasis for me (69% on Metacritic). It was atmospheric, introduced some interesting gameplay mechanics, had a nice story with some pretty cool moments sprinkled in.

I bought too human today as well, Even though i had a copy when i was younger (i destroyed all my games back then, didn't really care about them. Came to a point where i realised this stuff costs and i actually wanted to collect this stuff. So now im a gamer and a collector)

Also, Far cry 2 is brilliant, i love just sitting on a hillside, my vehicle parked next to me as i observe a camp for around 3 minutes, analyzing AI Movements and then taking out each person accordingly. It's not a game I'd recommend for casuals.

Metro 2033 im yet to get around to, I've got it of my bro (Basically, if he's got anything he finds too hard or doesn't care about and i find it, he will practically just give it to me, otherwise he would end up getting it all scratched up anyways and that is unacceptable.) but i have started it and enjoyed how the weapons handled, i dont really like the voice acting though, i guess it kind of irritates me because of the accent difference between countries. (And no, aussies aren't the rough tone of voice stereotype you've probably heard of.)
Have to agree with those who mentioned Alpha Protocol, Far Cry 2 and Rogue Trooper.

I'll have to get that Deadly Premonition at some point (maybe wait for the remaster?).
