This was unexpected, but definitely deserved, we won't argue about that ;) NowGamer, a multiformat videogames website, have published a list of "Most Influential People in the Games Industry" where among many great names, the staff have included Guillaume Rambourg - GOG.com's Managing Director! GOG and its boss appeared on the list for preserving the history of gaming and revitalizing classics for next generations of gamers. That's an honor for the whole GOG Team and an incentive to work even harder and bring even more great classics to the catalogue.

nyx: Grats!

Now some facts for you felleas qouting that gibberish about elderscrolls beeing medieval forest gta clones; My problem with the statement, is it's quite the opposite case, arena the first installment was released in 1994. I don't care to google when gta 1 was released, but it was at least few years later
It was just one fella, and it was I that was quoting him.

A "medieval forest gta clone" could actually have been a fun and silly game for some console. "Yo man, let's steal the horse and armor of that knight over there" "Nah I want to mount a dragon instead!" "Uh oh, shouldn't have done that, the dragon mounted you."
Add some Huns, nuns, Mike Huckabee and the sugar plum fairy and you have a good game.
To be honest, I can't take that list too serious. All 3 from the first page aren't anywhere near the most influental persons in this industry. Neither Pitchford, Ono nor Rambourg. Same for Pincus, Braithwaite and even Tim Schafer.

Seriously, some of them cause news from time to time. Some are leaders in their niche, special and maybe amiable characters, but real influence is something entirely different.
That's frickin awesome guys! Way to go! They're saying that because they know the same thing the rest of the fans of GOG know. That GOG serves the gaming community with some of the best old school games and has some of the best gaming deals on the net. Plus there's always extra goodies. :D

drmlessgames: Bobby Kotick's in the list? That's a sad statement on the game industry. Find it funny too, that both Todd Howard and Chris Avellone share nomination too, Todd "mass appeal console retardfriendly GTA clones in medieval forests games" Howard in the same list as Mr. Planescape Torment? :D
Well, influential doesn't necessarily mean that they're out there doing good for the industry. Kotick being on the list is sort of proof of that. You can argue all you want about the man, but Activision's doings of the last 5 years can hardly have been positive for the industry. Though I'm not going to call Howard a retard (Morrowind and Daggerfall are great games), but I also don't like the way Bethesda is headed.

Anyway, congratulations on making it to the list. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations!!!
Great going, GOG! Just get Grim Fandango and that French monk can have a guaranteed double-n ticket for the Number Nine to go along with his robes and honors.

For future use, of course.

Stop dreaming

Stop dreaming

Why?
We´ll not see Lucasarts games around here for a while... Sadly.

GameRager: Don't stop the dreaaaaaaaming.......doo doo doo doo DOO doo doo doo doo.
I won't.

While tejozaszaszas is probably, sadly, right, "for me" Grim Fandango is the best game ever made, period, and Lucas Arts truly sucks for abandoning it with the intention of letting it sink into oblivion, it seems. If they don't want it, don't care about it, they should give it up to an outfit that does. Namely GOG.

Some of the big recent signings indicate that awareness of the value of GOG is slowly creeping its way through the industry - some $$ vs. no $ is always a good proposition, and then there's the good publicity potential . . . so yeah, always worth keeping up the hope (and the pressure!).
That is awesome, and a well deserved honor. The GOG team and the people making the higher-up decisions genuinely seem to care about the gamers they cater to, and that is far, far too rare these days.

And, of course, you have given me Planescape:Torment and Baldur's Gate... so I am literally looking for excuses to like you guys and buy more games from you. :p
The day that GOG puts out its first Lucas Arts title is the day their webpage hits go through the roof. People who have somehow managed to remain oblivious to GOG this entire time (hard to imagine, I know) will be hearing about the news while riding the elevator, taking the subway, et cetera.

And half the forum posts will be about which LA title comes out next....
