Earlier today, my friend and fellow GOGger IAmSinistar said to me: And it does indeed, wouldn’t you agree? So, I thought it warrants a little GA.

Topic of discussion
In the spirit of the GA’s theme, let’s discuss favourite Foursomes, i.e. favourite things that come in sets of fours. Tell me yours, and why it is.


Rules and Requirements

(1) You can enter for yourself or for someone else that enters for themselves,
Note: only two support entries per entrant (so keep count if you want your support to matter).
(2) One game per entrant. You may choose up to three games, but can win only one.
(3) Participation in the topic is mandatory, even for support entries.
You can be serious, funny, inventive, but you must remain civil. It can be anything, even made up, so long as you can present convincing, and hopefully entertaining arguments. :-)
(4) No rep requirements, but no free pass either. (~_^) (^_~)
(5) Games must be redeemed within 48hrs from the time the code is PMed to you; if it's still unredeemed after that, the code will be given to the first runner-up for each game.

Let me start the discussion by sharing one of my most favourite things - its GOG codes, they come with four blocks of alphanumeric characters. The old ones were even cooler as each of the four blocks was made up of four characters. Why are they one of my most favourite things? Because they bring much joy to me when I get the chance to offer one or more of them!:-)

When I was young, I took a summer class called "Strategies and Tactics". Somehow, much of the class was about how to commit fraud. For example, the instructor explained about removing the corners of 20$ bills (such that the bill was still valid) and affixing them to the corners of 1$ bills. He made it clear that they wouldn't bear up to scrutiny, but they'd be fine for quick transactions like buying food at baseball games. I don't know why he would encourage 11-year-olds to do this. He was fired soon afterwards, for similar reasons. (He actually cheated the entire class out of some money and we caught him at it.)

One positive memory from the class really stands out, though. He introduced us to the four fours puzzle: That is, using 4 4 4 4 and mathematical operators, make all the numbers from 1 to 100:

44/44 = 1
4/4 + 4/4 = 2
(4 + 4 + 4) / 4 = 3
etc.

We did a handful in class, and that night, I stayed up late with my parents, puzzling out all but three (if I remember right) of the numbers from 1 to 100. It was excellent fun.

One of my favourite foursomes is definitely the Ghostbusters. I was in grade 6 when Ghostbusters came out, and it was the perfect age for that movie. It was my favourite movie, and at one point, I could pretty much recite the whole script. The Ghostbusters theme is my ringtone.

Edit: Oooooh! Silver in the giveaway pile. If you don't have Silver, you should get right in and enter this giveaway. It's a great game that isn't really available anywhere anymore. I have it on disc, and just recently traded for a GOG version.

Not in but my favourite foursome (not that original but whatever) are four players in local mutiplayer. Back when I was a kid, the nintendo 64 was my jam. I would invite the local neighborhood kids to play four player games such as in Super Smash Brothers, F-Zero X, Donkey Kong 64, etc. It was not only a blast but showed me just how enjoying local multiplayer really is. Nowadays, online multiplayer is the thing, but local multiplayer really has that personal vibe to know just what the other people are feeling in the moment instantly. Just my two cents, thanks for the giveaway, +1 for effort.

Just wanted to put up The Fantasic Four, from my favorite configuration as a kid... when that egotistical whiner The Human Torch quit... and was replaced with: Herbie the Robot!

This seems like a nice occasion for the giveaway. I'd like to be in for Silver, for myself.

I really like the idea of four elements: everything consists of earth, fire, water and/or air. It fascinates me, because the idea seems simple, yet there is so much history about it. And some representations, creations based upon four elements are absolutely awesome. Like the cartoons Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Was that real? I don't have much knowledge about the history of The Fantastic Four but the robot is a surprise o_O"

Things that come in four.... Well, single pan pizzas have four slices, and pizza is awesome. Actually, I guess any pizza can have four slices... You'll just have some big pieces.

I rowed in high school and college, and my favorite was to row in a four man boat.

My favourite foursome ... oooh yeah! There was that one time in school with three girls from my class who dared me to... nah. Let's keep it R rated. :-)

Other foursomes I like are The Fantastic Four (and also some songs of "Die Fantastischen Vier" - which is a German band named after the comic heroes). And I also like the four elements, even if there are many, many more in reality. :-)

Oh, and in for Silver, since that game isn't available on GOG any more and I missed getting it before it disappeared.

As a film buff, I have a weak spot for quadrilogies (we have already too many trilogies!) like "Alien" or "Indiana Jones" quadrilogies. The last Alien film was better than the 2nd & 3rd film (and it was directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet), so it was a nice addtion to the series, and I'm still waiting the 5th entry (And no, Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" does not count!). Unfortunately, I could not say the same thing about the latest Indy film. One of Spielberg's worst, unfortunately.

Today I learned about a new superhero!

This is interesting. Though it's a bit hard to imagine Spiderman in the team - I guess I got used to seeing him as a "one man army".
