I don't care what my brother or the rest of the midnight audience was saying when the movie ended. It was a shitty movie. Terrible CG, terrible acting, terrible overbearing orchestral score, terrible Dolph Lungren... just don't see it. I know having all those famous action heroes in one movie sounds awesome. Hell, most of the audience watching with me was blinded by the star power. But the action fails to ever become interesting, and when they make the things that happen in the movie uninteresting, they are clearly doing something wrong because things are crazy nearly all of the time.
The worst part? I missed seeing Scott Pilgrim tonight to watch this shit show.

Well, actually, based on the time when I am posting, I saw Predators yesterday and will see Scott Pilgrim today.
But the point is, I saw Middle Men on Monday. I am a sucker for Internet History movies (even fictional ones). I really liked it.
I'm also creaming myself over The Social Network coming in October. Directed by David "Fight Club" Fincher and written by Aaron "The West Wing" Sorkin and about Face "I hate Facebook" Book.
That said, I actually have no plans to see The Expendables because I saw The Losers and I'm pretty much fulfilled on that theme.

So what, they manage to make explosions boring? Quite a feat

You didn't grow up with 80:s action movies or appreciate the genre.

Actually, I am a huge fan of most 80s action movies and cop movies. I even like Cobra, when I know most people hate it. But even Cobra was made at a point in time when action heroes actually tried to be in character. Let me put it this way; The Expendables is Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. Everyone seems to enjoy 80s movies that were really cheesy, so why don't we purposefully do it this time and throw in a bunch of "wink wink nudge nudge" moments?
Stallone made a much better action movie, Rambo, a few years ago, because he was actually trying to be serious. Even though that movie was as hammy as his other efforts, it worked because it wasn't self-aware. When you're self-aware, you need to show talent behind your hamminess, and The Expendables failed to deliver.

I haven't seen it yet but according to all that like the genre (Movies like Commando, Missing In Action, Rambo and the like.) it's a real blast from the past and right up their alley. Can't wait to see it. :)

Yeah the latest Rambo is a good movie. Not only because it's like a modernised 80:s action movie but also because it's well produced, directed, filmed and in the sound is great.
Hm. Hopefully I'll like the "wink wink" stuff. It's usually from person to person if it works. Haven't heard much criticism about that except from professional reviewers though and very few of them will like this kind of movie anyway.

Ugh, well thats me out then.Ahhhh the B-Movie syndrome. The charm of the 50s scifi B-Movies with zipper enhanced monsters and wobbly sets was that they all took it seriously whereas as soon as someone tries to make a comedy of it, it fails simply because they're making a joke of it.

Maybe I had heightened expectations because of the cast and crew involved in making it, but I felt like it never reached its potential.
Besides, Step Up 3D got better reviews, so I don't get where you're getting "OK reviews" from. If by "OK" you mean "slightly better scores than Meet The Spartans" then yes it is getting OK reviews, but overall most of the critics seem to agree with me.
EDIT: I also feel like I should mention the marketing is misleading. Yes, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and AHNULD are in it, but none of them are in any action scenes and are forced to regurgitate really bad dialog. Bruce and AHNULD are in it for five minutes, and Rourke is just their lonely tattoo artist. Considering Rourke is one of the only actors in this list that turns out decent performances anymore, it was disappointing to realize he wouldn't be in the actual action.
Also, this movie made me realize I hate Jason Statham. I thought I used to like him when I saw Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but now I realize he's probably the worst familiar "actor" besides Dolph.
EDIT 2: The one person I really liked in the movie was Terry Crews. He was 100% enjoyable to watch.

I loved the Expendables. I haven't enjoyed an action movie that much since the last Rambo movie. I honestly don't know how anyone coming out of the theater could be anything but satisfied with the action. To be fair there was no plot or story or character development. But the movie brought the action and the action kicked ass. I saw it at midnight and I'm going to see it again today. I never do that. So, thumbs up from me.
